Mine is a GMT-Master 6542 Gold Rootbeer. Technically not a RootBeer as it wasn't known as one yet, but that's for you to decide.

Launched in 1954, just one year after the regular Turn O Graph ( 6202) aka Submariners precursor, it was developed off of its (6202) basis with a modified bezel and movement. As we all know the 6542 are very popular amongst collectors more due to the fact no only being the First GMTs but also due to the bakelite inserts that make them highly desirable. The Bakelite's unfortunately would be a short run. Just 2 years later in 1956 they changed the Insert from Plastic Bakelite to Aluminum due to the fact the bakelite would tend to crack and break. It didn't help either that there had yet to be any crown guards as they weren't introduced till the 1675 model in 1959. This also contributed to the vulnerability of the bakelite.
