What I heard from someone in the watch world is that the scarcity, particularly in 2H 2017, could be a factor of two things:
1) They used 600 324S movements for the 5522 (movements which could have gone into 5711 or 5167s).
2) They have a target proportion of SS watches they want as part of their annual production; the 600 SS 5522s ‘ate’ into that proportion leaving less room for SS Nautilus and Aquanauts.
Again, this is not some verified source just someone in the industry so take it as you will. Nonetheless however, I could see (2) playing a factor and it will be interesting to see what happens in 1H 2018.
