Welcome to the mad house! And I'm certainly not going to disagree with your assessment; however you should take a good long look at Seiko. Grand Seiko in particular, but even their cheapest models are excellently finished and last decades without a whimper.

I think all the mainstream brands have upped their quality in recent history, but you can grab a Rolex from 1970 and a King Seiko from 1970 and I think you will agree that Seiko has always brought their A-game.
