As Terry said, it is indeed true.. (although I'm not sure what you mean by cert)

Let me expand though..

It's not really the "old GMT hand" that cannot move separately...It is a different watch..

The original GMT is the GMT Master. This watch has a 24 hr hand that moves at 1/2 the speed of the standard (Mercedes) hour hand, is syncronized to it, and the 24 hr bezel is used for all the variations and zones for the 24 hr hand. This watch was produced from 1954 up through 1999 and was still available into the 2000's..

The GMT Master II was introduced concurrently (both models were out at the same time) in the early 1980's and came with an independently adjustable hour hand; the 24 hr hand is still the same as it always was........... It is also still produced today..

So, to be technically clear... on the GMT II, the hour (Mercedes) hand is independently adjustable and always has been....not the 24 hr hand (some may call it a GMT hand, but that is the name of the watch, not the hand). On the GMT Master they are synced.

There is an almost 20 year period where both GMT models were produced/available; the GMT Master and the GMT Master II.
