Frankly, that's not awful if you avoid macro photos, but you can probably improve it a bit with some work. Have you tried adjusting the opening of the end-links. Sometimes you need to do some trial-and-error to optimize the fit. But even then, you shouldn't expect something as perfect as you would get with a modern watch.
