I find a lot of these comments demeaning and cheap. The gentleman in question is truly a brilliant actor who gave us some movie gems. He has aged well yet gets ripped apart for a hairline at 69?

Then…Questioning the habitual style/quality of GQ reporting despite it having remained the same for decades.

Agreed - watched Dancing with Wolves with my parents but either the movie sucked or I was too young to appreciate it - Open Range is fantastic

Seriously. It’s a GQ cover of a mature actor. Why so much criticism.

Favorite watch on a great actor. Dances with Wolves a great movie and highlighted the great state of South Dakota.

Hey Good morning... The OP here - I was responsible for this thread... LOL..

Good discussion.

It's interesting to read the comments on a post you make and realize that people take it the wrong way. Well mostly because I probably did a bad job of articulating what my post was about - that is about 95% of the problem - me. I wrote it in the moment right after reading the article. 1st let me say - I like Kevin Costner - in particular his love of making really good western films which I love. I did not want to hate on Kevin.

Second - while GQ is a fashion magazine the article I assume is about Costner's most recent film "Horizon" which he literally bet the farm on to fund. That's a pretty big commitment. I guess my issue was the article was about a famous person and their big personal bet on his next upcoming movie - so it's all about the person Kevin. I thought, why did they turn the cover shoot into a fashion show when the article is - I hope - about Kevin "the person" and their big bet on their next project - risking financial ruin? I would not expect, if they did a cover story on any other famous explorer or sports star they would dress them up in stuff they don't own? I guess that probably just not how things are run today. The answer is - they gotta pay the bills and dressing up Costner probably generates some good ad placement revenue.

Anyway this quote was what set me off…. "For Tietz, selecting the right watch for a specific talent feels a bit like reading their auras. “I always look at the talent and take in who that person is and how they carry themselves,” Tietz said. “Are they flashy? Are they subtle? Are they, you know, timeless?” Costner, still as ruggedly handsome as ever at 69, certainly qualifies for that last category. “He's a classic dude,” Tietz said. “I wasn't about to put anything flashy on him.”

Ugh…. Maybe I need to make my next post - "What model Rolex best fits my aura?"

I guess the reality is that is exactly what I do when I select a watch... But I would not use the word "aura".

Yes, none of this ruffles my feathers, let alone surprises me in the least. It's a barely-scratches-the-surface-of-journalism magazine that's propped up by the fashion industry. This is a publication that you read on the plane when the wifi goes out & you're tired of playing Candy Crush on your phone
