Sea Dweller Or Submariner? (Pics included) (new gmt photos as a little bonus)
Hi all-
Had some time to waste today and figured I’d pop into my local AD which is really close to my house. I spent some time talking to my sales guy who has always been great and I have really wanted to get a submariner (no date) as my daily piece…. I asked to try on the seadweller and to my surprise…..yes it’s definitely big but I loved it. Also loved the submariner and am really torn between which to pick. He told me the sea dweller can be had much easier but he’ll take care of the submariner for me as well if that’s what I want. Obviously there’s a large price difference and the submariner definitely looks a bit more elegant and definitely wears better but boy does that sea dweller make a statement and the matte dial really drew me in… also got to try on the new TT gmt on jubilee which looks great but not my style… Current (rolex) collection which may help you guys give me some advice on which to pick between sea dweller and sub -126610LV (my current daily but I do love the watch very much and would prefer to not wear it every day. Not to mention the green isn’t an every day color for me) -BLRO on oyster -116500LN white dial ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think the sub and GMT look best on you size-wise. I also think the GMT TT suits you just fine…unless I’m missing something that can’t be seen in the pics.

I have no idea why I like that GMT TT so much. It's got an 80s aesthetic that I really dig.

Since you have the Sub date already, I would go for the Sea Dweller. Get the Sub later.
I have both the sub and the dweller and love them both. I rotate them every other day and love the size and feel difference. I’m giddy every morning. Try doing that if you get the dweller and your sub date. |

I prefer the SD43 over the Sub41, but there's no bad choice. Both look great.

Has my name down for a sub date for 2 years at my AD and was offered the watch around 18 months ago. I genuinely thought it was the watch for me. The store has just started to get in exhibition pieces and they had the have the SD43 to try on. That was it. I explained that the SD43 was the one for me. The AD totally understood and sold me the watch on his next allocation. Regardless of how easy a watch is to purchase, always buy what you prefer and what you think looks and feels best on your wrist.
The SD43 looks great on your wrist !

The Sub will be more comfortable. SD43 case back is a issue for many including myself which can wear a DSSD JC without issue.

Since you already have a sub, I would go with the Sea Dweller. It’s a great watch and there is just something really cool about it . Good luck!

I was bullish on the sea dweller but in the end went with the sub. My brother has the SD 43 and envies my sun due to versatility and comfort. SD 43 sweet watch though for sure.

The crazed fanboys will always push you to the gmt , sub and daytona . Just the way it is and most likely will always be .

I personally didn't like the sub. It felt too small and thin, and didn't stand out compared to other watches. So, I chose the sea dweller instead. I loved the red line, the deeper rating, the escape valve, the thickness, and the bigger bezel with full markings. Honestly, I don't get why everyone makes such a big deal about the sub. The sea dweller was an easy win for me.

I had a black Sub date 41, but swapped it out for the SD43, as it just felt a bit more special to me

Do you prefer the simplicity and clean classic look of the Sub or added size and detail of the SD? Since you have the LV already, I'd lean towards the SD.

With your collection I’d go SD43, it’s a great watch with tremendous wrist presence. It’s a rotation watch for me, but every time I slip it on, I just love it!
Runner up would be the Submariner, and it’s clean classic aesthetic. Easily a one and done daily wearer. You can’t go wrong with any of them. ![]() |

Interesting topic about models that I personally like very much. Since you already have two comfort models with the LV and GMT, it may now be time for the heavy artillery, the SD43. It's definitely heavier and bigger and therefore has a lot of presence. Especially as a rotary clock I would use the SD43. As a daily watch, the Submariner is probably unbeatable. Let us know what you have decided. Apart from that, all three models look really good on you!

Based on your collection I would go with the SD43. You have the Sub covered. I would say that the TT GMT might be the next if you could get an allocation.

Both work well for you. The SD is on the upper end of what fits IMO, but it does work. The Sub can look so pedestrian at times. That's not to say it's not a great watch - it's nearly perfect. But The SD just dials it up a notch and has a more special feeling. Based on your photos and your collection, I'd go for the SD43. I'm not the right person to ask about that GMT because I still hate the bezel.

Sub mate!
Even though you have a bigger hand, sub fits you better. I had the sd43 in past and the Sub is much better for me! |

Based on your current pieces , SD43 would be the go ahead, but it does not soove ur daily dilemma as its relatively heavier as a daily esp if u are used to Sublv or panda or gmt
I have lv and pepsi and sold my sd43 after 1 year as too heavy ( for me ) and not using it

I recommend the Submariner for every day.
The Sea-Dweller is a small jewel but it is too big and demanding to consider it as an everyday watch. |
