Icon13 A call to the Rolex Service Center NYC

I called the Rolex Service Center in NYC and asked to speak about Rolex Sales Policies in ADs. (Yes I know this is the Service Center number I'm calling. The reception transferred me to a different department that would best answer my questions.)

I was transferred to an individual that told me that ADs can do what they want in selling any Rolex pieces weather it be by bundling or by selling it OVER MSRP or making you spend a certain dollar amount in order to get a sought after watch piece.

He further stated Rolex does not condone to the sales practices and cannot regulate how their watches gets sold from ADs and each ADs has their own store policy.

I'm very surprised how this conversation went... I though Rolex can govern their ADs unless this Rolex Employee does not know what he is talking about.

The AD owns those watches and they can do whatever they want with them.

I'm not surprised at all about the info regarding pricing. If they set a firm price for ADs to sell items, they'd get a heck of a lot of trouble when the Feds come down on them for price fixing, which is very illegal.

The answer they gave you is the best answer.

Well sort of, but they risk losing their Rolex affiliation if they repeatedly break corporate policy (such as selling directly to grey dealers)

What exactly did you hope would come out of this phone call with the person they put on the phone?

I can assure you that the person you spoke with did NOT have a clue what’s in the contract and AD must abide by.

Rolex does control everything down to color of smock an AD’s in-house watchmaker must wear. Yes, different colors for different work processes. White for working on a movement, Grey for polishing cases.

As for pricing, in USA Rolex must adhere to the anti-trust laws about price fixing inside an independent salesroom. So they can only set the MSRP - they can’t make the AD charge it.
