Rolex Depreciation......
Has any TRF member ever worked out what Rolex model would be the least depreciating from new. Obviously the Daytona holds its price but you have to pay above MRP before you own the watch as even used ones are pricey. I will wait till Basel 2010 to see what comes from there (a new PEPSI maybe ?) before i buy one.

My idea of the Daytona and it's value is scarcity due to low supply which is easily rectifiable via more focus on that particular model in manufacturing. You don't buy a Rolex for it's investment qualities, should be more for the appreciation of it's quality and feel. You buy a watch to use, admire and keep. Some may buy vintage for be it nostalgia, value or both but at the end of the day a watch of any kind is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it...

Didn't buy mine to resell them. 20 years (for one) and 10 years (the other) later I guess I could sell for a 'profit'. Not gonna do it.

I've heard a few ideas on this. A Pepsi is the option I took. It should be here in a few weeks. Check out the two movement options 3185, 3186 I think. I'd also look at a red sub, or mint seadweller too.

Pre-loved
Buy a pre loved Sports model, have it RSC serviced, wear it for 5-7 years.
Afterward make the decision : service again or trade in I'm sure your watch will not cost you more annually than 50 dollars. Don't buy for investment, that won't work out. Jack |

I think i might go the Pepsi route as they seem to be at a reasonable price at the moment.

If you love and wear a watch and sell it for profit when you want a different one then it really make sense.

All of my Rolexes were bought pre-owned for much less than how much I see them sell for in the classifieds
BNIB, I would guess the Daytona would be best in holding its price, but I'd chalk that up to scarcity rather than depreciation. |

Buy a Rolex Sports watch by haggling hard with an AD or from a trusted seller at a keen price and the depreciation will be hardly noticeable, if anything.

I would buy LNIB complete set. Save the money--check the board--always something nice out there and good folks to deal with!! Do your homework first of course!

Talk about the mother of all depreciation, heaven forbid I'd flip her (or she me). 50% depreciation, straight off the bat. The mother of all cash bonfires !
