Changing Crystal on 16710 GMTII

Hi There,

I was searching a topic here about changing crystal on 16710 to the newer crystal with AR coating on it but couldn't find anything. So here is my question.

I have sourced a genuine rolex crystal with an AR coating on it to be fitted on my 16710 GMT II. I took the crystal to a local rolex trained watchmaker in my area for the crystal swap. An hour later, got a call from the watchmaker and he said that he was able to fit the new AR crystal to my watch BUT the watch didnt pass the water pressure test.

He mentioned that the crystal was a bit smallish and loose and the seal or gasket (??) did not fit properly on the crystal. This was probably why the watch did not pass the pressure test.

So my question, is it possible to fit a newer AR crystal to older model GMT (16710)? If so, does it need a different gasket then?

Thanks for reading and looking forward for some advise.

Mel

There is a small scratch on my existing crystal and i thought it would be a simple swap with the newer AR. Plus after having a newer watch with an AR on it, it makes it better.

The seller didnt supply the gasket along with the new crystal. I suppose i need this gasket to fit the newer crystal??

Thanks for the response

I have difficulty understanding your watchmakers issue..

The new crystals are identical to the older crystals except for the AR coating under the cyclops.. They even carry the exact same part number with only an AR added to let you know..

Any watchmaker with a parts account can order you a new crystal with the AR coating and install it
