I would suggest the Waterman Phileas. Writes well beyond it price range.

X2.

Richard, the pattern on your Phileas is quite different from what I have and seen.

That is not my Phileas, but a photo I absconded off the net. I have the green and blue and they are both very nice.

Waterman does a great job on these and they are worth every penny IMO. If a person looks diligently they can find them for 30 - 50 $.

I would add that if this is his first FP that the Waterman Phileas Kit is the way to go. It's only $60 on amazon and you get a bottle of ink and 5-6 cartridges with a few colors of ink.

I have a Pelikan M150 that I am very fond of. It is a very good writer and if you search around you can find them for about $55.

Thanks for the suggestions. This is far from my first fountain pen. The problem is I have a habit of losing them. Maybe I should lower the price range even more.

Check out http://www.isellpens.com
look in the closeout section and the Wing Sung pens. I have never used one but for $3-5 each you don't have to worry about losing them.

Todd at isellpens.com is great to deal with (excellent communication and fast shipping).
