My fellow Floridians (specifically Tampa region)
If you haven’t yet, start preparing. I’ve been here through a lot of storms and this one just feels different to me.
I heard an old wives tale that the Native Americans here sacrificed someone or something like 1000 yrs ago to keep our area safe and thus far we have had no storms that directly hit our region. I don’t know if I trust an old wives tale 100%. So…… Few reminders for those preparing. Get fuel for generators in approved containers but don’t overdo it. We all need to get fuel. (Let’s not have a repeat of someone filling a wawa sack with fuel). Grab some cash, if the cable and power lines are down your cards will not work. Water and canned goods. You should already have a fairly stocked pantry. If you don’t, do it now. Get an extra tank of propane for the grill. If you’ve got a camp stove make sure you’ve at least got a gallon of white gas. Clean your yard up and trim any tree branches that overhang your house. Put your shutters up or get some plywood. I’ve personally witnessed the devastation even a Cat 1 can do and it’s not something to take lightly. Be aware of your neighbors. Lots of us here have elderly neighbors or transplants that have never been through a storm, if you’ve got time ask them how you can help or if they need anything. Fill up a few garbage cans filled with water and a 5 gallon bucket handy in case you lose water service and need to flush toilets. Be safe and if anyone needs anything don’t be afraid to reach out and I will help if I can. Know your evacuation shelter and have a plan. If you’re not prepared to ride it out in a formidable structure make your way to a shelter. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

Headed our way but hopefully it changes course. You never know but best to be prepared. Some good tips above! Cheers and good luck all.

All good suggestions - I have a few additional thoughts. Filling the garbage cans with water also helps them from blowing away as well as creating a supply for the toilet tank. But I also suggest picking the bathroom with a window and bathtub as a primary sanitary station. Also fill the bathtub with water as an easy access point for refilling the toilet tank. If you don’t have a garage, or have more cars than spaces in the garage, park your ICE car(s) with fronts close to your home’s wall. If it’s going to be outdoors in condo or apt. parking lot, open hood and slide some plastic wrapped cardboard in front of radiator core. This helps protect it from wind-driven soil/sand/leaves/etc being forced deep into the cooling vanes. If you have a newer home/condo/apt. that is super-sealed for energy efficiency, consider cracking open a window or two on the leeward side. That helps if the lowest barometric pressure passes your home. If your pool isn’t covered by lanai or other screened structures, consider draining out about 1’ to 2’ of water and turn off the skimmer/pump/vacuum/etc. This helps overtopping the pool’s coping during the heaviest rains and/or clogging filter media with debris. Yup. All over it. Thanks for the reminders! Lots of folks recently relocated just don’t know. My snowbird neighbors haven’t yet arrived, so I have a few extra houses to watch over, on top of the kids houses. Busy busy.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tampa is my second favorite city. If I were forced to leave my hometown of San Diego, (La Jolla), I would move to Tampa; downtown by the water. I am sure that gives all of you Tampa residents a warm and fuzzy feeling
Everyone please be safe and take care of that beautiful city. |

I’m surprised you haven’t pursued a ready room at my casa. Lol. We’d love to have you in our area. Also, someone just spent 22m for Derrick Jeters house that Tom Brady rented for a while. They’re going to demo it and build out 3 lots instead. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product Last edited by MrGoat; 25 September 2022 at 03:33 AM.. There are many that are new residents and specifically in the Tampa Bay region I feel like we have gotten lackadaisical about storms since there hasn’t been a significant one to impact us since the 60’s. I’m glad you all are prepared. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

...and then there's my simple TWO STEP plan:

I don’t know about “Tampa” specifically however I know I am not a transplant and I grew up and live in the Tampa Bay region. This thread isn’t about that though and is specifically for giving tips to those NOT used to hurricanes. Thanks for your addition to the thread. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

I'm on the east coast, Jupiter area. At this time we are not really forecast for anything like the west coast is. However, by 9am this morning our Publix grocery store was just about out of water and my usual gas station was already out of gas. Pretty crazy.
