5726…white or black?

Nope, not asking since that decision has been made, but it’s one I looked up and struggled with for a few years so figured I’d write something about it in case someone else searches the topic like I did.

Over the course of a few years, I’d always try on the 5726 when visiting my local AD. Usually wasn’t in a position to buy but always said “I’ll be buying one of these at some point.”

I’d love whichever version they had (usually not both at same time) – white or black. I’d pore over pictures online debating which one I’d buy…kind of silly since I had no clear plan or path to actually doing it, but it was fun to do.

So I get to the point where I am ready to make the move and restart the debate in my head in earnest. Google imaging the watch, reading any reviews available, etc etc.

What other watches do I want? If I go white here, I probably would not eventually go for a white 5711 (yeah, I’m in minority but I may prefer it over blue)…but white would be a good compliment to this, or that, etc etc.

No further clarity develops.

Put two pics side by side and email a few friends. Pretty much 50-50 split there too. No help.

F- it…lets reach out to my AD and ask what they have. Maybe that will make the decision for me. And of course…they had both available just had to ship them in from another location. So much for the “let what is available decide for me” theory… *&^%$!!!.

Yeah, I know...what a problem to have, eh?

So a hiccup in delivery and only one arrives – black – and I go in anyway. Put it on and it sang pretty loud. I was ready to close the deal and head out.
BUT…was I just thinking that because it was there and I’d have to wait for the white? Patience won out and I handed it back and waited for the white to arrive the next day. Glad I did since I’d have wondered a lot afterwards if I never checked out the white again before committing.

Go in next day and have them side by side. Even brought my wife in though she hates watches due to my “problem.” Put on the white…yeah, it’s still nice. Very nice…but it didn’t sing like the black did the night before. Let’s see if that song is still going…so I put the black on, and it was still loud and clear to me.

Ask my wife which one and she says “Neither. But definitely not white. And no to getting both.”

Fortunately I was in agreement if only one was to be had, and the case was closed.

Moral of the story: if you can, get them both on the wrist and see what sings. In this case, the black/gray did….which was good since it was also the one my wife was in very clear favor of. She hated the white/silver.

But at least I have the right one (for me) on my wrist, and no doubt whether I made the right choice.

Some pics of the events

Haha...I think all of us go through this mental process when deciding on our next piece. I am going through this right now. It's the fun part of the journey. I like the darker dial more but for a white dial Nautilus, I think it looks best on the 5726. Congrats, again.

BTW, my wife is the same way.

awesome watch, couldn't be a bad outcome with those two. as you know its very difficult to have choices on the same model with popular sport related PP. you were fortunate. I didn't see EITHER 5711 before purchasing. but im sure im not alone on that "entry" level pick

Dude, it's like we share a brain when it comes to watches, I know your smarter on the whole. Lol. But that's exactly how I would have gone about making the decision. Black for the win. Great pickup. Looks great on you. 🍻👊🏽

Good on you- you were patient, took your time and considered it fully. That's saved you a lot of regret in the future or money, flipping and buying the other model. The black/ grey dial looks great, congratulations and enjoy.

I know how that goes bill. When I'm watch shopping and my wife happens to be there (usually not the case ), I always say what do you think?

Her response everytime " I like the one you are wearing better"

Contrats, I Made the mistake of getting the one on strap, can't have 2 Nauts on bracelet right? Too redundant, very stupid of me as I never loved it as much as the 5712, I understood 2 things, a Naut needs to be on bracelet and get what you prefer f... Redundancy

Thanks everyone! Still enjoying it quite a bit.

Turns out it wasn't quite the perfect fit I thought in shop and had a link taken out. AD ordered a 1.5 link for me since I will probably want it come Summer when my wrist swells more.

Anyone know that the "1.5" is actually 1...yes, ONE...millimeter bigger? I had to laugh...

I don't have the measurements, but that isn't right.

I would avoid the 1.5 link if you can. I think it spoils the look of the bracelet.

Here's a photo I found from the purists, you can see it is clearly more than 1mm bigger.
