Heresy: the 5167r isnt growing on me...
Bought a 5167r a few months ago and wear it most weekends. Nice, but to be honest not thrilling - the dial on my black AP 15400st is nicer and more interesting to look at and it is easier to dress up than brown on composite strap - unlike the AP I dont ever wear the 5167r during the week. Would like a PP for my collection (which is otherwise all rose gold and includes an IWC chronograph classic, a day-date presidential, a reverso grand duo, an ALS 1815 chrono and a GP 1966 classic) but not sure the 5167r is going to be the one.
Not interested in AC or PC complications. Am thinking about trading down for a steel 5167, trading laterally for a 5164 (I do travel a fair bit), or trading up for a 5980r on leather. Giving the 5167r more time is also an option as I am not pushed to move it. Would appreciate advice. |

5980R is a beauty but you better love it considering it is a 64K piece. It has more of a sporty feel even though it is on a leather band. Travel time is a great piece as well and a big bonus if the dual time zones are applicable for your job. If the 5167R isn't speaking to you then I would move on from her and make sure you get something you really love.

If you like rose gold then what about a 5396R?

5396R is nice, but dressier. 5712R never worked for me because for the price it's like buying two steel Aquanauts, with no additional features and an enormous premium for the gold content.

5164 or 5712R: Sport/functional vs Sport/elegant.
It sounds like you might benefit more with 5164 because of your traveling. 5980R is a beautiful watch but at 64k, I would be more inclined to other choices. Like you said you have plenty if time to decide.

I'd go with 5711 or 5167 in bracelet.

5164A is hard to beat (aside from the 5990/1A!)

5164 sounds like the brown is holding you back. If you like the black 15400 dial, the charcoal on the 5167/5164 puts it to sleep IMHO.

my first choice would be the 5712/1a however if you're looking for:
1. Rose Gold - then i'd opt for the 5712r or 5980r depending on your budget but both of em are absolutely stunning. 2. Steel on rubber - then i'd opt for the 5164/a. its truly a wonderful piece and quite honestly, i too wasnt so fond of the 5167r.

My opinion on the Aquanaut is been back and forward, depending on the day.
One way of looking at it is that the 5167A is the only logical buy because at the retail of the other 2, the Nautilus would make more sense. (Unless you want to have them all ! Lol) Other point of view would be that the 5164 is the best option on the line because it's functionality/sportiness, but if you don't travel is hard to justify the price. In Summary is a beautiful watch, the only problem is that I have a hard time justifying it. And if You have a hard time justifying it as well then maybe you don't like it as much either.
