Build your own AP ROO??

Seeing all the feedback on the novelties from SIHH and also a lot of the comments in the past, may I recommend to AP (if they read this), the following:

I think AP should launch a custom "watch configurator" system - clients can specify all the materials/combo they want from a standard list; they could charge a decent premium for this - say 25-30% and I am sure there would be good take up.

Variables:
1. Watch case material
2. Bezel material
3. Dial style, flat or tapisserie
4. Numerals - sticks or numbers
5. Dial colour
6. Numerals/sticks colour.
7. Crown and pusher materials.
8. Strap material
9. Buckle or deployment.

Of course one could go further, but the above would give you almost unlimited combinations, and they would have to set up an AP Bespoke department or similar, charge a premium of course and throw in some bells and whistles along with it, along the lines of creating a ROO VIP club effect.

You read it here first!

Part of the ROO VIP service could include obsession counselling? I like it!

However given that AP are rationalising there line up with the new 42mm offerings this year I don't think your idea (IMO a great idea) will fit with their current strategy.
I would be happy if they would offer minor tweaks such as changing a steel or rubber bez for a better looking and more durable ceramic one.

Funny idea, but this would hurt the secondhand market. The number of model alternatives would get out of hand IMHO.

Just counted that there would be at least 32.928 possible different versions of this "build it yourself AP". Probably many more as I'm sure I forgot a material or two.

In the old days when I had a serious ROO collection, I could just about have offered a customisation service myself. :)

Great idea... I would LOVE that option. Would be so expensive though. They wanted 5k to change the rotor on my 15202. - Can't imagine what it would cost.

Is that the total cost for a custom engraved rotor?

Looking at some of AP's recent creations, I think Lego was their inspiration too!

TBH we would love this on Rolexes too. We all think we can design watches better than all these guys. And we can.

What would custom watches do to market values of limited editions?

1. Watch case material - Diver case, rose gold
2. Bezel material - ceramic Diver bezel
3. Dial style, flat or tapisserie - tapisserie
4. Numerals - sticks or numbers - sticks
5. Dial colour - Black
6. Numerals/sticks colour. - Rose gold
7. Crown and pusher materials. - Ceramic Crown, no pushers
8. Strap material - Black rubber
9. Buckle or deployment. - Rose gold deployant (which I would design to be a much better fit than the old ones)

Damn, I would buy that watch. I'd also be delighted if they just added a ceramic bezel to the SS Diver...

Love the idea, but would make it much harder to distinguish between genuine and replicas, especially in used market

I am sure they could come up with some sort of electronic register for authentication purposes. It would just be an adaptation of the existing online register but made available to prospective purchasers for a nominal fee.

Given all the LEs and SEs, it seems like AP has already made available about half the possible combos. ;-)
