Well guy's, most of you will probably think I have officially gone to the dark side. I have been a Rolex guy for a couple of years now, started out with a SD but it was to floppy and heavy on my wrist...I actually think it felt heavy due to the bracelet.

. Then I bought a new 14060M ND Sub that has had my very satisfied for some time now but I still wanted something more. I have been looking into the Omega brand and really liked the Planet Ocean and the 2254.50 SMP, well I bought the Seamaster a couple of weeks ago. I have to be honest, {we are all watch lovers here and appreciate what they do for us so be kind in your responses}, but the Omega IMHO is a better watch than the sub. It feels so sturdy on my wrist, the bracelet is fantastic, makes my sub bracelet feel like a piece of tin. The lume is something that I have never experienced before, it's amazing, I guess after wearing Rolex for 2 years makes you think that watches are not supposed to glow. I am amazed at how easy it is to read the dial, and of course their is no cyclops to blur up the hands and date. I by no means am bashing Rolex, but these are my experiences with two classic watches, and at less than half the price, it is hands down a much better value and the quality is definitely on par with Rolex, better in many ways. Here are some pics of my latest, I truly hope that I have not offended any of my friends here, but I am just being honest with some fellow watch lovers.....

I don't think you could offend very many folks by enjoying your SMP as much as you do.. As a matter of fact, I have this one on right now....

But ya' know, we have the Rolex Forum....and we have the Non-Rolex Forum....

Nice looking watch. I really like the extra bright lume. It has faded on my SS and still holds up pretty well on my TT. I would pick one up for those times when a Rolex might be over doing it.

No offense taken, the SMP is a great watch and a great value, as you pointed out. I've had a 2055.80.00 for the last five years and it's served me very well. I agree also that the Omega bracelets are hard to beat. Why Rolex doesn't see fit attach a better bracelet to a watch costing more than twice as much as the SMP is beyond me.

I don't think anyone is offended. Most Rolex guys are also "watch guys" and appreciate many makes of watches. I happen to like Omega a lot as well and in fact have the 2254.50. I love it for all of the reasons you mentioned. I was going to get a SS sub to be my daily watch and my wife was why are you going to spend $4 + grand on a "beater"? I agreed and when I looked around, the Omega SMP's stood out as an outstanding watch. I bought mine pre owned and in excellent condition for a little over a $1000. I think they are one of the most undervalued SS diving watches out there. Accurate, comfortable, classic looks and you can almost read at night from the lume.

Great purchase. Enjoy your and wear it well.

You are correct about the 14060 bracelet and the Omega is certainly far better value secondhand, less than 1/2 the price of the Rolex.

My usual question about Omega:

It says that it has a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Is the crystal AR coated on both sides on just on the innerside? I hope the latter is the case.

Man I love that SMP. I have mine on a Tropic rubber strap since I don't care for the Omega bracelet. But you certainly can't pick a better value than the SMP. It is the easiest watch to read of all the watches I own.

Hey Bo, the AR in on the inside only. I have owned watches with outer AR coating and it was a fingerprint and a scratch magnet, I will never own another unless I decide to polish it off. AR coating on the inside of the crystal is a fantastic idea, you get the benefits of the AR without the negatives when it is on the outside. You guys really are fantastic, I had some reservations about posting my newest addition on this site, it is a Rolex site after all, but you guy's are way above the Rolex/Omega bashing that tends to go on on other sites. Everyone here tends to appreciate quality and value, what a great group of watch lovers

I love the Omegas...
that 42mm dial just makes it seem so much bigger. They definitely have a presence on the wrist without being too overstated.
excellent choice.

although in fairness to the spirit of the site...there's just something about a rolex.

I have mentioned here before that although my pride and joy is my 89 16610, I also have a SMP GMT affectionatly know as a "Great White" or white face GMT, which for the money is a Super watch!!

Great SMP. I have the same watch as LolX and Perdu and I havnt taken the thing off in a month. It is my work beater......only problem is I am starting to wear it all the time even when I'm not at work.

Definitely. It's a great watch. I believe it is discontinued because Omega will bring out the co-axle version but heck, I have the GMT version and it's gained 4 seconds this month. How much better can it get! That 1mm increase in the diameter makes it look flatter and wider than the illustrious Sub. Congratulations.

I have the same problem, Peter. I have taken it off for all of about five days since last September. I keep thinking I must rotate watches. I don't consider this watch a beater - it's far better than that.

I have talked with an AD, and he will give me 15 % discount on an Omega SMP like shown here. Good deal?

Personally, I would have liked more than 15 % but he won't give me more than that.

If I buy it, I will buy a non Omega high quality rubber strap for it.
