Wedding

One of my friends asked me to photograph her wedding this past weekend.
Let me tell you... that stuff is HARD and I was terrified that I would mess it up. Unlike a watch, you can not reposition stuff and do it all over again, you can not create perfect light unless you got tons of equipment, you can't always tell people what to do.. etc. The challenges are endless, and I am just one guy with a D90 and a flash lol.

Will this be my first and last wedding? Probably! I don't think I'm cut out for this stuff! I simply have no experience photographing people and weddings are just not the best place to start.

Then... it got DARK and the flash had to work overtime, which in turn killed the skin tones. They started late, and the ceremony began around 19:20 or so. And there were no ambient lights. Just the moon. Pretty, but a photographic nightmare.

And other crappy pics like this one.

But I lucked out and I was able to get a few decent ones before the ceremony.

It was an interesting experience, and I am not satisfied with the stuff I got. Fortunately for me...

At the end of the day... isn't that all that matters?

Your camera skills, as always, are absolutely top-notch, my friend.

Those are excellent, Chip! Especially taken the gear and circumstances in concideration.
My nerves would rip me to shreads if I were to photograph a wedding (no danger in that happening anytime soon though).
The picture of the ring and hands and the one with the groom by the water are my favorites, really top notch stuff, Chip
Just proves what can be acheived with limited resources.
What type of lense did you use for these?

Thanks guys!

Rabmam, I used the kit lens that comes with the D90 (18-105 mm) and a Nikon SB-800 flash.

I`m getting kinda #"¤"#¤!! off at you proving me wrong time and time again, Chip
Seriously though, I know it can be hard to be objective with your own pictures, but these are really good!

Yup... the kit lens.

People will tell you over and over that you need all those expensive lenses etc.
You don't. I can show you pics taken with a full frame Nikon and a 2000 dollars lens and they are under exposed and lack proper composition. No one would EVER guess that the shooter was holding $5000 worth of gear in his hand. If you lack those two things, the lens is irrelevant. (I for one still have lots and lots to learn about composition)
Expensive lenses MIGHT make it easier for you to get the picture you want, but you have to know what picture to take.

Chip, you did a fine job in challenging conditions with challenging event. You got some great shots there and captured some once-in-a-lifetime memories, and that's what it's ll about.

The bride said it all. Good job.
