Surprise encounter

I entered a nearby state prison last Thursday for four days of ministry. We are "encouraged" to not wear expensive jewelry so I usually wear my Citizen beater during such events. But I've been wearing the 300 M for a month so Saturday morning before leaving the house, I strapped on the 300 M. My thinking was that on the Bond strap it would "fly under the radar."

All was going well when during a break one of the residents (inmates) asked to see my watch. Turns out he was a WIS serving a 40 year sentence. He told me about his collection, primarily Omega and Rolex with a couple of Seikos. The Omegas included a PO and a Speedy Pro of course. All had to be left on the outside.

Without access to computers and watch magazines, he was hungry for information and news so he hammered me with questions.

No one else noticed my 300 M.

Nice story, Fr. John. I hope your visit could bring some comfort to their hearts. For a second I was going to say it must be tough for a wis to be so long without his collection, but that must be one of the things he is missing the least.

Did he say where he got his watches from?
