Thoughts on the blue Sky-Dweller

A few years ago I owned a white Skydweller that I purchased from a trusted seller for essentially retail plus tax. I really enjoyed the watch but in the interim was gifted a Patek annual calendar by my wife followed by me “making” a Mitsukoshi Speedmaster from parts. This quenched my desire for an annual calendar and a white-dialed watch so I sold the Skydweller for what I paid for it.

Fast forward until now and I found myself missing the Skydweller and got very fortunate to be able to purchase one from my AD on _very_ short notice as I was heading on a cruise to Norway. I have had it now for 2 weeks and have some thoughts:

- I really did miss the Skydweller, more than I had realized
- The execution of the annual calendar is really smart. Very easy to read without cluttering the dial
- I think the dual time function is much easier to read at a glance than a standard GMT complication. You always look at the same place on the dial and read off the dual time rather than looking around the dial for the location of the GMT hand. I know that sounds stupid as I type it, but I really noticed in practice how much better I liked the function.
- The blue really is beautiful. It seems to my eye to be more of a “denim” blue than the dial of my blusey giving the collection more variety than two blue dialed watches would seem to have.
- That being said, I think the white dial does not get enough credit. It really seems more silver in some lighting and has a little sparkle to it. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the blue too, but the white was beautiful and now having owned both I wouldn’t have a preference for either one over the other. Unless one can source a blue at retail, I would save the money and get the white on the secondary market and have no regrets
- A lot has been written about how big the Skydweller wears, but I dont think it approaches too big at all. Now I am 6’2”, 200 lbs and have a 7.5 in wrist so YMMV.
- I definitely prefer it on oyster to jubilee but I might buy a jubilee anyway just because I can. I wish there was a source for an end-link so I could put it on a navy leather strap, I think that would look sharp

Had it, sold it.

Didn’t become friend with three things:
1. The fluted bezel. Too blingy.
2. The shape of the case: too curvy and doesn’t match the oyster bracelet.
3. Thickness of the case: also doesn’t match the shape of the case.

That being said, the blue dial is something out of this universe.

Love and appreciate mine but rarely wear it. My least comfortable Rolex. Weight feels very unbalanced. My deep sea is much more comfortable. Not sure why that is but that’s how it feels to me. Hopefully Rolex releases a thinner version. I still keep it because I do love the dial and love experiencing the movement w the bezel mechanism. Super cool!

It's not for me, but I get the appeal, and I appreciate the design. The blue and green dials are the ones that really work with that watch. The others, not so much.

A solid timepiece imho

I neglected my blue sky for a long time after getting a Daytona.

But, my Daytona isn't running well at the moment and needs service, and I can't send it in right now as I'm between addresses.

So, I've been wearing my Sky for a month straight; easily the most I've ever worn it.

I agree with OP that:
-Sky's GMT is much easier to read than normal GMT
-It isn't too big

Downsides:
-It's thick


I prefer it on oyster, I think. Mine came w/ Oyster but i bought and am currently sporting it on Jubilee. Jubilee brings variety to my collection as all my others are on Oyster, but the downside is it basically looks like a datejust and SCREAMS "i'm wearing a rolex"


I definitely notice folks notice it more often than not when in 1 on 1 interactions where other watches that I own would have gone unnoticed.

The blue is definitely gorgeous - same colour as on the YM40.

I’ve got an 8 inch wrist & am wondering whether to swap out my YM40 to the bigger blue SkyDweller.

But then I look at the more prominent splash of red on the YM & get all indecisive.

First world problem I know…..

Want to like this watch but can’t get past the fluted bezel and the polished surfaces. I like my watches a little more understated.

I have a slight preference for the Jubilee bracelet, but love the Oyster too…

SkyD Blue is a beauty. Mine is on Oyster.

It tends to be my go to watch when traveling across time zones, as the GMT is so simple to change and read.

I do not find the watch to be too large. Still works for me and fits under a cuff stuff.

I like the blue SkyD in my collection. It is quite “present” on the wrist. Mostly wear it in a business situation. I love the blue dial and am good with the size. It does have a bit too much sizzle for me as a daily piece.
