Got my first modern Seiko in NYC today.
Hi guys. The wife and I came to NYC to enjoy a week at one of our favorite places, and I decided to pull the trigger on my first modern Seiko and ordered one from Japan. Coming from vintage Seiko I can honestly say I was not 100% sure what to expect but I did my homework and ordered a SNZF17J1 - the 'J' being the japanese version, with 'made in japan' written on the dial. My first impressions are great as the watch is heavy, feels solid and looks well balanced with 41mm. I'm very pleased with my choice and this is a very nice souvenir. I know this is a very humble watch but I hope you all like it. Cheers.

Looks good!, be sure to check out the seiko boutique while in town, they have a great selection of grand seiko and divers. If your a cigar fan there is a davidoff lounge across the street too.

Very nice, buddy. I see some similarities between this watch and your Subs so I can tell why you were attracted to it.
Enjoy the rest of your trip! |

You're right my friend. The resemblance is there but I'm glad this is not a straight copy. I wanted a cheap automatic for 'is it safe' situations where my Subs or my vintage watches would not be used, but at the same time I wanted to feel proud wearing it. Not a good chance to make something like that happen of course and I thought about Steinhart (the direct Rolex copy and the painful decorated caseback made me give it up), then looked at some Swiss brands but Seiko took the lead and I could not be happier with my choice. We will be here until next monday and now we have a beautiful sunny day here in NYC and I'll enjoy the best I can. Thanks buddy.

Update guys. Room views of a lovely sunny day, then we had some steaks at Wolfgang's Park Avenue and all I can say about this place is Wow (including an old image here), and then we had a couple of drinks at 230 5th bar for awesome night views of their terrace. That's why the girl and I love this city. I'm not a photographer but I hope you like the pictures.
