I would have guessed you lost the small ratchet that keeps the bezel from going backwards, but that's also what makes the clicking sound.

Did you recently remove the bezel?

if its clicking, I think the rachet springy thingy is still seated but may have been "bent over" and now you have this situation, needs a new spring is my thinking...

My A series sub was doing the same thing. It would turn and ratchet like normal but would "slip" backwards in random spots. The action seemed kind of loose and sloppy as well. I popped the bezel off and the little spring that acts as the ratchet mechanism was all rusty (from saltwater diving I assume). I took it out and cleaned it with some steel wool and bent it slightly to increase the spring pressure on the bezel. Popped it all back together and it feels like a brand new watch!

Donq has it right it's most likely dirty under th bezel and the spring needs a small adjustment. Rik

If it's used, somebody may have put a GMT spring in it... then it would act like the GMT bezel and click the same in both directions.......

I have a GMT II that only turns counter-clockwise. I think we have each other's springs...
