The new Bond watch!

Omegas are great watches, but I was sad to see Bond won't be wearing Rolex for his latest movie, Casino Royale.

Rolex has a policy of not paying for product placement in films. Omega doesn't. The true first Bond film, "Dr. No", used Albert Broccoli's personal sub because Rolex would not give them one, and they wanted to stay true to the books.

I’ve seen the special edition of that and the second hand has 007 in it. I apologize to our members who like this and the Omega (as a Bond watch) but i.m.o. that is just tacky. For reasons that are beyond a simple clodhopper like myself, Rolex decided not to supply watches anymore. Dang, the Sub is the Bond watch! No Seiko, Omega or whatever otherwise fine watch. No, it has to be a Sub. Understated class, true waterproof and just ‘shaken but not stirred’. B.t.w., does he still has his PPK?

I like the Omega SMP dial, but with the 007 inscription, I'm not a fan of it either.

I'm not too fussed about it not being a real Bond watch. It's not a real Bond in the movie anyway.

Very true! Honestly, I think the Seamaster has been a good Bond watch. Let's face it guys, the Bond character has changed. The original Bond was a very shady character ... very rough around the edges. The modern Bond has been made into Mr. Sophisticate. Hell I'm surprised they don't have him in a JLC sports watch now

As much as Rolex spends on adverts though, I'm a bit surprised they've not been the highest bidder for the Bond watch. I just wonder if it has come down to something else.

That's a good point now that you mention it--although Bond gets into a lot of rough spots and travels so he would need a tough watch and Omega (and Rolex) fit that bill, the new JLC sports watch would also and it just SCREAMS sophistication. Interesting observation. Maybe though we have to consider that the audience is a pretty broad cross section of people (and is large too) and that most people will have never heard of JLC but they do know Rolex and Omega.

True, but imagine all the cool techie things all those crowns on a JLC Compressor Memovox could do in a movie!! Hell they could have lasers, poison darts and mini nukes comin' outta that sucker

It's kind of interesting from a marketing point of view. Omega is probably more accessible to the general public than Rolex, and JLC is even less accessible, but the modern Bond is about things that aren't accessible to most of us. Seems to me that JLC would really fit the bill.

There aren't supposed to be any gadgets in the new film.

I think you're right, the Compressor, not being well known yet because it does have those less common looking crowns could be a prop designer's paradise! Maybe Bond could put JLC on the map like they did the Seamaster.
