Just gave my GMT IIC a bath!
Hello everyone,
First of all, I have to say that I love TRF! I am a relatively new to the world of Rolex (I just bought my first 1 year ago...) and the information that I have received from reading this forum has been absolutely priceless! Thanks everyone! Now on to my story... So, like I mentioned, I bought my first Rolex 1 year ago. After doing much research on the internet, and specifically TRF, I decided to go with a GMT IIC last March (just before the price increase). Now, I've had my watch into my AD a few times to have it cleaned, but I have never actually washed it myself, due to my paranoid tendancies. Well, today I washed it for the first time myself! For those of you who were as paranoid as me, you have nothing to worry about. In fact, here are a few instructions on what I did: 1. I filled up a bowl with warm tap water. 2. I added my 2 year old's hand washing soap. 3. GULP - I completely submerged my GMT IIC into the bowl of soapy water, and left it there for 1 minute. 4. I took a "baby" toothbrush, and started scrubbing around the bezel, in the clasp, between links etc. 5. I used my fingers and rubbed the watch everywhere, cleaning the surfaces, all while completely submerged in the bowl of soapy water. 6. I rinsed it off under warm tap water thoroughly. 7. I dried it off with a microfibre towel, and left it to dry for a few minutes. 8. Slapped that puppy back on my wrist. 9. Staring at my newly bathed watch, looking sparkling clean, and the second hand still sweeping without missing a beat! Thanks again to everyone for all of the great suggestions. I love this watch, and now I have no reason to go to my AD to get it cleaned (unless I want an excuse to look for a new Rolex of course...) Hopefully this will help others who haven't taken the "plunge" to wash their "Oyster" due to unnecessary paranoia... |

Sounds like everything worked out ... congrats!
FYI - you could have dropped it in a river, but it may have wound up with a character mark or three! Welcome to TRF!

I have to clean mine every day or so. My girl gets cookie, and bananna smudges on it daily. I clean mine much like the op. No worries, and it looks just as good each time.

Nice job, and congrats! Sounds like it in the end it was painless. The first time I scrubbed one of mine, I had reservations about something as soft as the old, worn toothbrush. But, it really works well and makes them sparkle.
For a bit more, you can really put a shine on the smooth surfaces with a Cape Cod cloth. You want to avoid the brushed areas, but a little buffing with CC will make your GMT look almost new.
