Speedmaster
Was looking at a speedmaster. Anyone have one or any experience with them? Omega newbie.

I own the one you have pictured. It is the Omega 1164 calibre movement, chronometer grade, based off of the Valj. 7750.
It has been running extremely well since I purchased it just over 1 year ago. The regulation is spot on as it gains only about 10 seconds in as many days. Durability, well the watch gets worn ALL the time. I'm an avid motorcyclist, camper/backpacker, hunter and outdoorsman. The watch never leaves my wrist unless its on the nightstand when I'm asleep. I do take it off when I am working on the motorcycle since I don't need the Harley or BMW scratched. :) Its also a great size at 39mm. Not too big, not too small. I work in an office, so it goes well under a dress shirt and looks fantastic with a suit. I will also say the watch flies under the radar. You are not going to get a lot of looks with it... As for brands, you can't go wrong with an Omega. In my opinion, they are every bit the quality and durability of a Rolex, they just don't carry much weight name-wise with non-watch people. My wife wears a Rolex Lady datejust II, which is beautiful...she also has an Omega DeVille...in quartz though, so I don't count that one. ;) My dad has an Omega SMP 300...another beauty you could consider as well. Fantastic watch with much more presence than my Speedmaster-Auto. As somebody newer to watches, my house is an Omega/Rolex house and will remain as such. No Tags, no Gucci, no Movado or citizen or seiko...simply Omega and Rolex. Not that those others are bad watches... Now get out there any buy one for yourself....Christmas is on Tuesday, you only have 2 more days!!! |

Thank you John for all the info. I have been intrigued by the brand for years and it seems that the speedmaster may be just the place to get my feet wet.

Rolex, Omega, and Zenith. In that order. You just can't go wrong

Owned this one for a while, I regret selling it and will probably buy another one someday.
Speedy Pro is in my mind the best 'affordable" collectible.

Part of me regrets not going that route...when I made my purchase, I didn't do quite enough research or I'd have done so. I do, however, like that mine's an automatic and has a date...the Pro has neither. |

Does the Speedmaster have a clear see-thru back? If so, does it stick to your wrist at all in warmer temperatures? Thanks in advance! |

Some Speedy Pros do have display backs, notably the discontinued 3572.50 and the current 3573.50.
I love display backs on the Speedy Pro. The manual Lemania movement begs to be seen: My first Omega was Omega's first automatic Speedmaster known as "The Classic" with the Valjoux-based movement. The Valjoux movement is very reliable and is used by many companies in their chronographs. The current 3570.50 is my dealer's #1 seller. But regardless, when you get ready to pull the trigger, PM me for my dealer's info and save some $$$. I owned several of the Valjoux Omegas over the years until I acquired my first Speedmaster Professional back in 2004. All of the Valjoux Speedies are now gone and so far as I am concerned, The Speedy Pro is the only Omega Speedmaster. No other watch has its history and mystery. I've owned as many as four at one time and currently have two in my collection. |

That's a great Speedy, it was my first Omega and is what I wear half of the working week. The second half of the week, I switch to one of the LE Speedies.
Very reliable, looks great, good size and very comfortable to wear. I've fallen asleep with it on my wrist on several occasions and never really noticed it until I woke up next morning. Haven't timed it for accuracy but I've seen several people recommending it for its accuracy. It's a great introduction to the Omega world IMHO.

The clear back is great... you pay a bit more for it than a regular 3570 but I love the show.

Speedmaster Professional belongs in any watch collection. History, tradition and quality. The NASA mystique does not hurt either
