I like vintage as much as the next guy, but that dial looks like it's from 1858 and been at the bottom of the ocean for half that time. Congrats to the winner!

You could have bought it and put one of Bob Maron's special refinished-but-called-original dials in it instead.

Not sure about the price, but what a beautiful watch, despite its warts. Blemishes, dial crazing, hands corrosion ... sometimes those imperfections just add to the beauty of a vintage piece.

I love the beaten, high mile examples as much as I love the safe queens - both have their place.

My wallet favors the beaten watches that have hoisted a pint or two, run from the cops or shore patrol, and will have stories to tell the grandkids.
