Would you sell.....

More of a fun thread.

Would you sell a single sealed 5131G bought at retail price in this market?

...seems like prices have hit the ceiling, I can't see them going much higher....

and if a P launches would that hurt grey market value of this (~$140-150)

Depends on if I needed the dough ray mi. No one knows if it's hit a ceiling, but it's certainly up there...

Are you insane? :-)
so you probably waited many years for that watch and after receiving one you would sell it ?

To be honest, and don't take it personal, I am disgusted with those that buy a watch only for the profit.
selling it the next day or week is imo a shame.

knowing that hundreds or even thousands would love to have such a piece.... it would give me a bad feeling if I bought 'THEIR' so badly wanted watch only for a profit.

at least take it out of the stupid plastic seal and wear it for 6 or 12 months.
If sold after a few years it is imo acceptable , but even after a few years I would only sell it if I really needed the money, not just for the profit

Depends on if you need the money now and what's the most you can get for it. Market price is high now, but I don't see that changing and I'd figure if they are coming out with new P and R, J and G can possibly be even MORE desirable if they stop making them.

Keep it. If you've bought enough Patek's from your AD to get one then you can afford to keep it. Oh, and wear it also, that's what it's for.

The fact is that there are many people who will never get to see the 5131 in person, unless you make a trip to Geneva. Then there are some that will get to own several 5131's during their production run. The relationship between an AD and a collector can be rather intricately weaved. If one of these collectors want to flip the watch for a quick $60K+ USD profit, it probably would not be a big deal.

For the rest of us, it can be a tough decision. If you bought it on the secondary market at a significant premium and want to sell it without any significant loss, then I think it would be a no brainer. If you waited several years and got one with your name on the certificate from an AD, I think it would be a harder decision to sell, unless you really needed the money.

I think that if you get one at retail, you are unlikely to be the kind of person whom would be interested in selling it for the 50-60k. Myself, I would sling that thing faster than you could finish your beer.

Then again, I'm not on the list for a reason

I'd keep it, and I have admit that I agree with most, if not all of the above quoted post.

If you sell it, unless you have some really really serious connections, you will never see another one at retail. Why not enjoy and it and continue to let it appreciate. If you wear it and don't appreciate it then that's a totally different story.

I'd sell it. Doesn't sound like you have much emotional attachment to it.

I would sell it because I don't like it. I personally find it way too busy for my taste. What I meant to say is that it's ugly. Again that is just my taste.

If you are a flipper, yes. If you are a Patek collector, you probably don't need the money.

And, if they do, it won't affect existing prices. The bottleneck (and what keeps prices elevated) is the dial, not the metal.

Well that depends, I will soon have a 5712, and believe me I need the money, don't mean if you have 1 or even 2 PP you are super rich, I put a lot of my income and capital in watches, though I have a very modest collection it is a lot for me…

Oh and for the watch, I don't like it, so would definitely sell, for that price there are so many much nicer pieces, in PP, ALS, AP…..
