TRADE POLL: 5726/1a and 5164a for 5960/1a plus cash v. VOTE NOW!!

I am contemplating trading my 5164a and 5726/1a for a 5960/1a (and cash to me). I have been offered a great deal so I'm not worried about that end. I'm just completely split on what to do. The 5164a is really not singing to me so I do want to flip that. I like the 5726/1a but think the 5960/1a will more than make up for that. I mean chrono, ac, steel, amazing insane different dial.

My concern is the bracelet. Pictures don't make it look great but I am sure Patek makes a beautiful bracelet and that the subtleties and nuances of the craftsmanship come alive in person.

So TRF, what would you do?

I am also curious what TRF thinks about long term value of 5960/1a? Is this a winner?

5960/1a is not my cup of tea

I do really like the 5960P with a black dial though!

I love the two references you currently have

5960 is not awful but I would not do this trade

Bracelet is not my style and imo the watch and bracelet are WAY too light

What Bruno said!

Though if you are not bonding with the 5164, then do it.

Or consider other alternatives

I love the watch and the bracelet as well. For me I would flip 5726 as not a fan of them but find a way to keep 5164.

I'd flip the two for a 5960p or r on strap but the ss version does nothing for me.
Love the 5164! Sorry it's lost the magic for you.

How long have you had the 5164 ? A month ? How can you tell it's not right for you after such a short period of time ? How much will you lose selling it ?

As I said i am not worried about your opinion on the numbers I am quite happy there so no need to worry for me

Beautiful thing about life is everyone sees it through different eyes. You might need a year to decide while I may be able to decide sooner.

That being said

1) less than a month i believe
2) see above
3) irrelevant for this decision (but very close to 0$ )

I love the 5726 and I find the 5960/1A a great looking watch head with a stunning movement, but that very shiny bracelet kills it for me. So I wouldn't do the trade. I may however do the trade if the 5960 was the 5960P model:

That is an insanely beautiful time piece IMHO.

BTW, I've had a bit of experience wearing an all-polished watch with an all-polished bracelet. The first few weeks I loved it, but the initial rush quickly wore off, and I found myself looking in the mirror and thinking about "Maybe it's too much for a casual down-to-earth guy like me", or "Maybe everyone is looking at my shiny watch", etc. etc. I'm glad I had that experience with a much more affordable watch, so I didn't have to feel awful moving it.

I currently own a 5960 P anthracite dial. I thought about trading towards my 5204 P. I was she'll shocked as I shopped the trade of the 5960. It's a good thing I got a great deal cause I was only $9000 on the plus side. Which I thought was a little low. The consensus shows the original dial to be the least attractive for resale because the market has so many of them.

I would find a Black dial first then a Blue if your worried about resale value.
If the SS version becomes readily available my thoughts it won't be a strong resale. The bracelet of that watch is very intricate to make. Each loop is put together piece by piece. From what my PP rep told me is that it takes a minimum of 60 hrs to fabricate that bracelet.

My opinion I would trade both for a Black dial. It was produced for one year and not every dealer got one.

It all depends on the amount there going to make available!

I face the same situation as you whereby I sold my 5164 after owned it for few months. What I dislike about the 5164 is the pointer date which I find difficult to read the date sometimes.

I flip it for its smaller brother 5167 instead. No regret at all.

It seems as though you are not thrilled with either of your current PPs and that is OK as we all have different tastes and some get flipped quicker than the others. From my findings 5960/1As have been readily available and with discounts so I would not make a move for this piece unless you absolutely love it. My 2cents would be to find a piece you MUST HAVE and then move the two you currently own.

+1. Trade both for 5960p or r. Also consider the 5990. The 5990 looks really nice in person and has good wrist presence.

I would keep the 5726 and flip the 5164 plus cash for the 5950. I also am not a big fan of the bracelet but it seems like you love it so go for it. I think you would regret flipping both watches. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

If you don't like them anymore feel free to move them out. Neither would be hard to reacquire. As with any standard new release, the 59601a is a dice roll. Maybe they have a short run = great for resale....and maybe they make a ton of them = bad for resale.

Regardless, no sense in owning Patek's you don't like!

Keep what you have. Put your 5164 in a deep dark hole for about 3 months, time lock it, and come back to it. Don't tempt yourself to even look at it. Your love might have rekindled for it by then. And I think the 5726 is one of the greatest Nautiluses ever designed so no way no how would I let go of that piece.

I'd go for it, but completely understand the crowd that wouldn't. The bracelet is the issue and it's a biggie...let's be honest the other non-Nautilus/Aquanaut references that have utilized a SS bracelet have been duds.

I love the 5960/1A, it is much cooler on your wrist than it is in pictures. With that said, I wouldn't trade the 5726, personally I'd keep both and save for a new piece.
