MR explained by the president

Found a nice 8 minute video where Thierry Stern explains the different minute repeaters and the best metals to use, RG being the best it seems, which is logical since they made the Grand Master Chime from RG and not another metal, personally if I had the possibility, I would love to get the 5213, it's only in WG, has of course MR, PC retrograde and moon phase, plus officer case back and a modern size, 39,5mm if I am correct, it is IMHO the best minute repeater, there are other great ones but in terms of size this is the one that would be the best for me, unfortunately apart from winning the Lottery there is no chance I would ever get one...

Enjoy

It is the perfect complication, even though it's quite useless these days.
The 5339R is of course my favourite PP minute repeater watch, maybe I'll have the honour of servicing one of these one day.

A minute repeater is certainly a grail watch that most WIS would love to own one day.

I would certainly love to have one at one point in my life.

A 5078R would probably be a endgame watch for me.

Gives me chills.

There is something nostalgic and romantic about having a minute repeater in the collection. Definitely a grail.

Beautiful however I fear you can't even sweat with one of those on your wrist:)

Would be delightful to wear.

I heard that gold is not the "best" material for minute repeater as it is too soft and not that good for sound diffusion.
Maybe it is the reason why FP Journe makes its MR in steel..

For me also Bas it is the perfect complication, even if useless the technical achievement of making one is so incredible that it is for me absolute perfection

Well out of precious metals I heard that RG is the best, followed by YG and WG, and the "worse" is the platinum, but like Stern says in this video or another, the best one he heard was from a platinum MR, so metal plays a big role but there are so many other factors involved...

I had an opportunity to listen to a FP Journe MR (at one of their boutiques) and a 5078P at a Patek AD on the same day. They both have their distinct sounds but the FP Journe seemed to be louder, possibly because of the steel case.
