16800 to buy or not

Hello all.
I would like to have another submariner. Here in south africa the pre owned oes have become pretty scarce.
There is a 16800 avail. It has been overhauled by rsc a while ago and has a year left on the international warranty.
The price is about 20 to 30 percent less than a decent 16610 would cost.

It has sapphire glass. Also the hour marker surrounds. Attaching a pic.uploadfromtaptalk1443774386062.jpg

Pros and cons of such a purchase? Any advice highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What do you want from a pre-owned Rolex? If it is just the desirable saving in comparison to buying new, then this is a good idea, because you have an excellent watch, recently serviced and still under warranty.

If you want the charm of 'vintage' and the appearance of the watch's history, then this would not be the way to go, as a lot of the parts have been replaced in service.

16800 is a great reference, but I would prefer one with the matte dial, personally.

Check out our list of vintage dealers and look at what they have. I just would never buy a 16800 without a matte dial. Here's mine- (gone now unfortunately)

I am sporting a matte dial 16800 at the moment.
But this watch above compared to a 16610, I can't see the difference particularly as Karl pointed out , has been servicd by RSC and is 30% cheaper... pull the trigger now.
My watch attached

Looks like a nice example and I wouldn't hesitate to buy that watch if I was seeking a Sub...the RSC warranty is a nice bonus!

I prefer the matte dial but I would also jump on this based on what you're looking for.

The only thing that I will add is that the dial may no longer glow...not sure if that is a necessity for you. Depending on whether they changed the hands or not, they may not glow either. Aside from that if it suits your need, then go for it.
