So... here's the new Olympic champion!!!
Hello again!!!
Finally my day at work came to a close and so I rushed (oh yesssss!!) to the Omega Boutique! And there it was, the Beijing Aqua-Terra chrono in SS! Well... the trip to Beijing in August needed a ticking companion , that's how this one came about. I guess Petros is overdoing it a bit this year! So, here we are at the Boutique... checking out the new Beijing Aqua-Terra! I don't think the Daytona knew what was happening... And so she kept a safe distance!!! The new AT-chrono in its Beijing 2008 guise is amazingly beautiful!! My first thought when I finally saw it in person was how unbelievably better it looks when compared to all the publicity pictures so far. The pix do not even come close!!! So, after we spend a lot of time chatting and going about watches and many other things, it was time for me to go (since I had a long evening still in front of me). The new chrono was nicely packed in its original boxes, cards stamped and then I was ready to go. Back home after quite a while (and quite late at that), it was time for some quick & dirty pictures, while the new Aqua Terra got to know its new home...! Even the bags Omega use now are Beijing-themed and are absolutely lovely: Here's the AT's special box... So that was it for yesterday. I figured I'll try to take some better pix today at work... but the light was far from perfect, and it all had to be rather quick... so the pix are nothing special... They certainly do not do the watch any justice at all. Anyway, here they are... practically "live" from work... Like I wrote, the pix are not doing the watch any justice, and that's quite sad. The AT chrono was always a marvelously amazing & extremely beautiful watch! What intrigued me with this Beijing edition of it were the many little changes Omega incorporated. The dial for one is slightly stepped and what's more important, it is not lacquered! It features a wonderful and fine matte finish that goes so well with the 3 white counters... literally it gives the watch a new face!!! The little Olympic rings at the lower end of the chronograph seconds hand are lovely and compliment the design very well! The case is everything you'd expect it to be as well! The famous lines of the Speedmaster (with its "twisted" lugs) coupled with touches of an even more distant past (the oval shaped pushers of the classic vintage chronographs)... what else could one possibly want? All in all, it is an extremely beautiful watch! The quality, the craftsmanship, the little design-tweaks; All I can say is: wonderful, wonderful, wonderful... Omega gives it a WR-rating of 150m, and the screw- in crown gives a nice reassurance. So this one is bound to taste the waters of the Aegean Sea this summer (when it comes back from Beijing)!!! Oh, and speaking of the wonderful trip to the Olympics in Beijing (that has me more and more excited as each day passes), the medallion on its back will serve as a very neat souvenir for years to come: Well... so this is it again... another fine Omega has found a home with me! And it will help me to always remember our trip to Beijing! (Oh well, it will also help me remember the year I absolutely "overdid" it!!! Hell, there's still an Alaska Project coming... Gee!!!) Thank you for reading through all this... and... my friends, thank you for sharing these happy moments with me!!! All the best, and a great day to all!!! Petros

Thanks for a great post Petros.
That really is a nice watch, not sure about the olympic rings though. I'm sure I'd buy one too. |

AT range for this part of their Beijing Limited Editions. The Aqua-Terra line has always been wonderful! Thank you!!! I hope we will... and that all will go well! Thank you Peter!! That's what I also thought at first... but that was before I actually saw the watch in person...! The Olympic rings are so tiny, and they (at least to my eyes) fit so nicely into the whole design (together with the slightly blueish hue of the anti-reflective treatment of the crustal)... they way I experienced it (and still do on my wrist right now), they are a wonderful little detail that looks neat... All the best Petros

Great looking watch..
But I think they should have put the date window off to the side so it doesn't mess up the 6 o'clock sub-dial.. .......

Hi Petros.
Well done on your latest purchase. Enjoy wearing it. Not sure if I like:- The date window breaking up the sub-dial and the 6 o'clock marker, the Olympic rings or the hour and minute hands. Can you explain the 'Base 30 Pulsations' and the graduations on the dial?

Thank you all so much, for your kind words & wishes! I will post many (Omega-related) pictures of our trip to Beijing as soon as we get back. But this is still a few weeks ahead... So for the time being, I'll stick around... Quote:
The pulsometric scale enables you to measure directly your (or anyoone's) pulse rate per minute. In this case, the scale is calibrated on a basis of 30... It goes like this: When taking a pulse, start the chronograph and then stop it again after 30 pulse beats. Then you can simply read on the scale the number of (pulse) beats per minute! That's all... Hope this helped a bit... Thanks so much again everybody...!!! All the best
