What do we think of this Gilt 5512?

Markers look rather matte and sort of off to my eyes?

Says unpolished, what do we think about that?

When a movement needs an overhaul does that reduce value?

Everything else look straight? Anything to be cautious of? ( I realize it's ebay so no need to comment about that here)

You can usually expect to service a vintage watch when you buy it so I wouldn't expect that to reduce the value unless it's not running correctly.

There are signs of corrosion under the crystal which may or may not be an issue. I'd want to see the movement with the caseback off to check the movement looks clean and no moisture ingress.

The caseback grooves are damaged which is disappointing. Another reason to see it with caseback off - maybe it's seized.

Note that a lot of the value in these is the condition of the dial. I would want to see excellent pics of the dial in various lighting conditions and angles to make a judgement on the condition since it's listed as no returns.

What do we think of this Gilt 5512?

Curious issues with the isolated damage. Perhaps from poor watchmakers in the past regarding the dial, and mishaps with the caseback. At that price you could have some expensive work - so the price is a bit high when you consider he unknown costs ahead.

Look closely below the 6 index; looks like it is damaged to me.

This watch is priced at 18K. Are you ready to fork that over without seeing thorough photographic documentation of the case, the ref. and serial number, macro shots of the damage to the dial and/or crystal at the 6 hour marker? And aren't you the least bit interested in seeing several detailed images of the movement? To my eye there are possible signs of moisture or water damage. The reality of having the watch serviced is not the issue, the heart of the matter is making sure the watch is 100% authentic. There are SS cases being faked/fabricated now that house period correct movements and dials. There are amazingly real-looking 5512 dials being manufactured in (or flowing into and out of) Germany. For 18K I would seriously vet the watch, as well as the seller. It all might pan out, just be careful out there!

It blows my mind why sellers don't service the watch before selling it. Absorb the cost into the final price, but do everyone a favor.

Also that damage on that dial @ 6 oclock would be deal breaker for me. your eyes will go to the damage everytime you look at the dial.
