GMT or DJII
Hey Guys,
Moving on to my second watch. last year my wife purchased a BLNR for my 35th Birthday. Loved the watch... honestly grew tired of the Black and Blue combo and we had an investment opportunity come up .. so we sold this along with a couple other toys to invest. Now back and looking to make my 2nd purchase on a Rolex Our local AD has 2 that has caught my attention and I'm trying to decide between the two.. He has offered either at 8k and there will be not tax... is that a good deal for either of these or could I do better? we paid full bit for the BLNR 9k and no tax when we purchased it Please post pictures and provide any input you have. I was an overall fan of the BLNR and he has an all black version so it is one of my two contenders especially as I think the solid black bezel will go with everything the other the DJII - Its a Blue dial / Fluted Bezel.. It feels both sporty and a little more dressy. But I wonder if it may be a bit flashy If it was Black dial I think I might get a bit more excited.. wondering if I would grow tired of the blue as a one watch only situation. Input appreciated !! |

Is wait and get a DJ41. Actually, I’d probably decide which Rolex in the catalog I wanted most and then just wait a few months to get it when ADs are re-stocked (or get from a TS)

Since you already have a GMT Master
I would go for the DJ.
It's not as flashy as I thought it would be. And the blue sunburst dial is gorgeous! Just my 2c Good luck! Sam |

I agree with this statement. To the OP... Just don’t buy one cause you miss a Rolex. Make sure you know what you want. I owned both a DJ II and BLNR. My first Rolex was the DJ I I blue roman fluted bezel. I got tired of it. Bezel was just not me. I already had a planet ocean so wanted something different but did not work out. 2nd Rolex was the BLNR. Since I had the PO still wanted blue. Ended up selling that as well too much going on with bezel more the gmt numbers not the blue / black. I also never used the gmt function. 3. Finally sold the PO and became a one watch guy and have a Sub C date. It’s perfect black dial, clean ceramic bezel. OP just make sure the you only sold the BLNR because of the color not the GMT function. Also if you think the DJ II is to flashy with the bezel now will not change 6 months from now. Good luck |

I’d go for the gmt. That going said I’m planning to add a DJ II or 41 to my collection at some point.

In almost any case IMO GMT >DJ.
Since you’ve already had one maybe it’s time to try something different? |

Too funny. I owned both of these pieces (except it was the smooth bezel DJ2).
I flipped both, but if I had to pick one it would be the DJ2. I just had no use for the gmt function, even though I tried to convince myself I did |

I have a BLNR and a DJ41 (which is kinda close to the DJ II)
I love them both but if I were to pick one the it’s the GMT! |

I have both of these watches.
Because I fly a lot, the GMT is my tool watch. It’s a great piece as you already know but I wear mine for the job for which it was intended....tracking multiple time zones. The blue dial fluted DT2.....it’s in another league. It’s an utterly beautiful watch, and if I didn’t use the time zone functions of my GMT like I do for my job, and it came down to a choice of one watch, I would rather let the GMT go and keep the DJ2. As you’ve already had a GMT, try out the DJ2. I think you’ll discover that it’s the nicer watch. |

Here’s a side by side of mine.
The GMT has had a submariner bracelet fitted, hence the brushed finish. They’re both super watches. The DJ2 is a far more eye catching watch. I love it. The GMT is a fabulous piece as well, really tough watch, and being all black bezel goes with pretty much anything. The older I get the less drawn I am becoming to black dial, black bezel watches. Especially in the Rolex line up, as beautiful as they are, they all look the same. The blue dial DJ2 is stunning. It’s as good as any sports watch and always looks so smart. It can be your daily beater and will still look spot on dresses up for dinner. |

Definitely the GMT. $8k no tax is a good deal for one, especially with inventory so thin.

That DJII could easily be your one and only watch. You can easily swim and dive with it. The fluted bezel is stunning and very eye catching. It’s a flashy watch but very classic Rolex. The DJII is also the largest of the DJ family so it is a bit sportier.

If you grew tired of the BLNR, you'll probably grow tired of the LN. Go for the DJ.
It's definitely blingy, but if you can get it under a cuff when you don't want it noticed you'll be fine. $8k seems strong, but if it's BNIB from an AD with full 5 year warranty, maybe it's not too terrible... see if you can work him down with cash on the table Good luck!

My DJ2 with smooth bezel and silver dial is IMHO such a perfect daily wear piece. It’s much sportier than you think and the PCL’s give it just enough flash to be dressy as well. Also the silver dial changes color significantly in different lighting.

Love my DJII but would love a BLNR also. My DJII is my only current so I personally feel it is more useable in all situations. If it was a black GMT maybe it would be equal if the comfort on both was the same. I don’t think you can go wrong with either for an only watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for all the Input !
Very much appreciated. I am still a bit torn as I truly like both... I may honestly let the deciding factor come down to both my wifes opinion and if he is willing to negotiate on one more than the other. Really don't think I can lose either way. There are of course a few others I would love to have such as the Daytona C and though not a popular choice the YMII in SS However I plan to make a cash purchase and can afford to part with 8k for in my opinion one of two beautiful watches. I don't think the YMII is worth the 14k-18k asking prices.. seems it doesn't hold value well.. and it definitely doesn't go under the radar. The Daytona C.. I would be happy with either white or black.. but my dealer still has a wait list and I would have to do the 4,500 financed for 0% interest for a year.. .don't want to do this... want to pay and be done. I know one poster above suggested looking at the DJ41 but he doesn't have any in stock and I feel I can work a better deal on the DJ2 currently available I will keep this thread updated with my decision.. hoping to make my selection by this weekend |

when i started looking last year for a watch, i had decided on a new datejust as i was getting nowhere finding a new gmt,
on the day of going to get the datejust, a gmt came in for someone on the list, but because i was in the shop i ended up getting first refusal, so i took the gmt, its a great watch no doubt, but the datejust is pretty special you have to say. what is the difference between dj2 and dj41 and are both still available? |

Well, you're not going to want to hear this, but the answer is...both.
So...what to do? Pick one and go with it. Doesn't matter which one (although I like the GMT, I won't be there to wear it ). Either is a great watch and will do you proud in all kinds of different situations. In a year or two, get the other one. By that time, you may even have an idea for #3. Good luck. |

I’m biased because I like sports watches. Me, I would pick the GMT. If you fell out of love with the BLNR, I say the same is likely to occur with the black GMT. The DJ is very nice and can easily dress up or down. The blue dial is prettier in my eyes than black.
