Sprite alignment

Hi there,

Just got this sprite from the AD but the change between black and green is not exactly in the middle of the 6. Is it normal or any chance of having been scammed?

Many thanks!

You can't be scammed by an AD in this way, but the watch does look strange....probably just because I'm still getting used to the left-hand set-up.

That’s messed up !
The date is at the 9 instead of the 3 position. Is that a joke ?

Ok I see that’s the way they make it.

I don’t like where they put the date.

Sprite alignement

Assuming you’re not a troll, this is a non issue. Look at a random smattering of images of GMTs on the Internet. You’ll see this more often than not. In fact, I just tried in the new Black/Gray at my AD, and it was like yours.

We may want to remember these are made by hand, so there are some slight variations. OP, you're 100% fine sourcing from an AD of course.

That does seem strange and I would be suspicious if purchased used, but if it was brand new from an AD you have nothing to worry about. I looked on chronos24 and some replica sites as well and they are all centered in the 6.

Mine is the same - nothing to worry about, you know where you purchased it from and if you got it from an AD you're safer than buying it on ebay! You never know, in many years to come you could be looking at an error bezel which adds to the exclusivity of your watch!..... Wear it and enjoy it - its an unusual timepiece in its own right.

Looks even worse under a microscope! must be a pretty difficult process to do this, would love to see a video of the bezel being made and then the numbers added. I'm not fussed about this, and no-one is ever going to pull me up and say 'that bezel looks a bit suspect'..... its a personal thing, I'm more frustrated I can never get the rolex logo and three dots on the winder to line up..

It looks exactly as it should: aligned with the 3 and 9 o'clock. It's normal to not be in the middle of 6 and 18 markings in the bezel insert, because had it been like that, then it would not align with the 3 and 9.

You should see the how the aluminum inserts are in the 5 digit GMT... ah, the times we live in!

Have to agree but with todays loupe and high magnification madness today they look for miniscule so called faults .

There is a video on the CHNR that talks about this very issue, that the bezel appears perfectly divided in half, but does not bisect the numerals at the half-way points on either side perfectly. The author of the video wonders if Rolex could perhaps scale the numeral font such that it could line up perfectly bisecting the numeral on either side and still be exactly half of each color. To me when I look at it, to my eye it is very harmonious, so I tend to not notice that detail until pointed out.

Rolex publishes a bit about cerachrom bezel production in one of the recent issues of the mag. Brief, but interesting, and is indeed done by hand, if memory serves.

As a quick update I sent a picture to the AD as I had to contact him for something else anyway and he said that alignment is never perfect but this one is indeed a bit more than most. He's happy to send it back to service if I want.

Many thanks all for your answers!

I had the chance to try on a VTNR at my AD last week. Looking at the pic I took, my watch definitely had a more centered gradient line on the "6." This confirms what others have said > there are noticeable differences between individual watches.

Thankfully it sounds like your AD is willing to work to "fix" yours should you so choose.
