Walked in on a "new old stock" Sub Date!

This happened a while back, just never made time to post about it.

As you know, Rolex discontinued the 116610ln on September 1st when they released the 126610ln.

My fiancé and I walked into an AD in New Mexico, USA on October 16th of 2020.

I walked in just for fun, hoping I could see some of the new colorful OPs that Rolex released.

A sales guy, greeted us at the door, asking what we were interested in. I said "nothing really, just wanted to look around."

As we walked over to the Rolex case, I saw what looked like a black Submariner Date.

I asked "Is that a Sub?"

He said "yes sir it is!"

"What? The new one? Or the old one?"

"The old one sir, the one that was just discontinued."

"Is it for sale?"

"Yes sir, want to look at it?"

"Sure."

I then find myself amazed that I am trying on a Brand New NOW DISCONTINUED Sub Date at an AD.

What are the odds of that?!

After thinking about it for about 5 minutes I decided to take it.

Called my credit card company, swiped the card, and they sized it for me.

What was also very cool is that when I decided to buy it, the store closed because one of the owners of the jewelry store flew in to film a video at the store.

They kicked everybody out of the store except my fiancé and I (because they were sizing my watch).

We got to see them record the video, and left once it was over.

Very neat experience!

I also want to add...

It was obviously a lucky find, but a few days ago I received a letter in the mail from the Lee Michael's sales guy.

A hand written letter saying "thank you for your purchase" and things of that nature.

I thought it was a very nice gesture.

I have bought from 2 other ADs before, and have never received anything from them.

So I'm happy about the watch, and happy to also have found what seems like a nice AD

(even though I don't plan on buying any expensive watches any time soon).

Yes, new warranty card :)

They didn't give me the bezel protector or white hang tag though, said it is Rolex policy that they keep those.

I took a bunch of pictures of the watch using my old iPhone 8.

I like watching things age...

So I wanted a bunch of photos from every angle, so that years from now (God willing) I can look back and compare and contrast how the watch has aged.

I plan to wear it hard.

Not hurt it on purpose, but wear it a lot and for everything I do.

Btw it’s not Rolex policy. I’ve gotten all of my AD purchases with everything. May be the stores policy. Just don’t think it’s official Rolex policy.

I was supposed to be there during that time(new mexico, abq and santa fe) I usually go every year for the balloon fiesta/daughters bday. I bet they had that sub in stock as NM right now is very strict on visitors, basically two weeks quarantine if you come from a majority of states(its why I didnt make it this year). That and the local economy is not strong. Love the story and glad you picked up that sub!!!

Exactly.

I have no idea how it ended up in the case. Specially after it had been discontinued.

They also had a black dial Milgauss with a green crystal next to it.

Last year, I had visited the same AD, and they had a DeepSea in the case.

My fiancé and I like to stop in Albuquerque about once a year. I like to go to the mall there, to the Rolex AD (which is about 2 years old I think) and across the street from the AD is another jeweler that sells Omega and used to sell Patek as well.
