Bought a 16610 and thought vs. 11610
I have a small wrist (about 6.5inch) and I always think the 6 digit sub is just a bit too big for me on the wrist. Every time I stopped by a Rolex store (two years ago when they still had subs in display cases), I would try the sub on the wrist but I could not "convince" myself to pull the trigger. I knew sub is not for everyone.
Couple days ago, I went to my local AD and tried black bay 58 on my wrist. I absolutely loved it, especially the 39mm case size. It does wear better than subC on my small wrist. Although it is not a sub, I know it will scratch my sub itch for sure. I added my name to the waitlist and almost forgot about it, until I found a NOS 16610. It has a very similar size to black bay 58 while it has the submariner name on it, and more importantly, it is new. I wired the payment without thinking too much. One day later, I have my first sub on my wrist. To be honest, the current subC does feel more substantial and quality and I would go for the subC if I had a larger wrist without doubt. My two cents: for those who love the look of the sub but sadly have below average wrist sizes, a preC sub or black bay 58 wear much better in person. Newer bezel, better clasp and solid bracelet are just something we need to trade off. |
