Whats the deal with these numbers????
Well I found a Rolex on line, local that I was interested in. I emailed the guy and within an hour I had a return email. Turns out I know the guy and went to school with him, Played hockey with him, and we are Fraternity brothers. So I buy the seller. When he turned 22 he got his trust fund and blew threw the money, so now he is selling a Submariner. Here is the thing, the numbers seem to be weird to ME. I have an 02 sub and his numbers are different and his is an 03. When I say different the serial number contains more numbers then mine. I know the letter will be different. I researched and cant find anything like it. I figured you guys have helped before and I love checking the Watchout!!!! portion of this forum, so here are the numbers. Let me know if I am way off on my thinking or if something fishy is going on.
Serial # R69173310B6252 Watch Number 8871332

Maybe you can ask to have him scan the papers so you can pull out the correct numbers. It makes you wonder if the watch number is an 8million series watch.
The R- number and/or serial as referred on your post belongs to a lady datejust ss/18K model number. |

I've just done a Google search on the R number and came up with this - http://www.capecodpreciousgems.com/S...8/Default.aspx
There is one sure fire way to get the right numbers, get him either remove the bracelet and grab the numbers stamped at the 6 and 12 O'clock position. or meet at a jewelers that can do the same. Cheers, Dave.

For an 03 model, the serial number should either begin with a Y or an F. R would be for a late 80s model watch (1988ish). Something is definitely fishy with regards to the paperwork. Need to removed the bracelet and see. For a 2003 watch it should be a Y or F. Perhaps your friend got scammed too?

You are absolutely correct. It's a Ladies DJ TT. Papers don't match the watch...

I wonder if he got the paperwork from two watches mixed up and there's a Ladie's TT DJ floating around with Submariner papers.

I hope his friend did not get scammed with substitute papers. Those papers do not belong to a Sub!
Wow, how about pics of the Sub?! |

Brent, the boys are correct for the model info, ladies Datejust.
The serial number 8871332 indicates it is 1985 vintage, which would make it a Submariner model 16800, which would be the gloss tritium dial with the tritium/gold markers.
