Icon3 I heard ROLEX will soon do ONLINE Orders...!

I heard that ROLEX will revamp it's website and begin taking online orders, while keeping a many AD's open in prestigious/high sale volume areas, until they move ALL of their operations to online ONLY...!

Quote:
ZURICH, April 7 (Reuters) - Luxury Swiss watchmakers, usually not big fans of online retailing, are launching a new all-digital Watches & Wonders event on Wednesday to display their latest products, hoping to revive sales hit by the coronavirus crisis.

Makers of high-end watches still largely rely on physical stores for sales, but the success of online platforms for pre-owned watches, such as WatchBox or Richemont’s Watchfinder, have shown it is possible to sell luxury timepieces online.

Pandemic-related factory and store closures hit Swiss watch sales last year and have forced brands to boost their often tiny online business and generally rethink digital activities.
I think that ROLEX will be at the forefront and set the example for online Luxury watch sales...

Given how scalpers can 100% better manipulate digital sales by using scripts than the avg 40+ rolex buyer I find this unlikely. Look at what is happening to GPUs in the PC market. Taking online registrations for watches is a whole different thing but still unlikely.

Except we saw throughout the pandemic that demand for Rolex is stronger than ever. It was the brands other than Rolex, Patek and AP that got hit.

Not a chance of Rolex going down this route, why would they want to go down this route, where’s the incentive?

This rumour goes round and round but without substance to back it up.

If Rolex went down this route then flippers would have a field day, ordering multiple watches through their friends and families, the situation for everyone would be much worse.

AD’s will be around for the foreseeable, I don’t see Rolex ditching the retail set up anytime soon.

OP: Don't think this article has any application to Rolex.

ZERO CHANCE. Absolutely ZERO.
W&W has as members companies that are within a large luxury group, which has brands doing e-com already.

Rolex is not one of these. They will not do retail sales, and certainly not e-com.

This is for the brands that belong to Richemont, and is the result of their e-strategy with Watchfinder, Hodinkee and the like. They have good digital teams and are recruiting in my field of expertise to develop this even further.

But not Rolex.

I heard to get the best accuracy from your Rolex watch you must hang upside-down for 3 hours twice a week, it must be true I read it on the net.

I’ll believe it when I see it, doesn’t fit with the Rolex ethos. In the future company operated stores perhaps.

Watches & Wonders Online

Watches and Wonders Online started last April (2021).

It was the replacement for the cancelled BaselWorld which alas will be no more.

This is the way the main manufacturers will announce their new models for the future.

The next watches and wonders will be in Geneva fromm March 30 to April 05 2022

This is the link to their website ...

https://www.watchesandwonders.com/en/geneva

The odds of the likes of Rolex etc. going online for their retail sales is approximately Nil.

Was this just click bait. Might as well linked an article to the sale of lumber. Didn’t see anything relating to Rolex.

It would hugely increase the margin for Rolex compared to selling through their AD network. Not a strange thought at all and surprisingly they did not go this route yet

Besides if this is true or not I will go against the grain and say it could happen and why not. Breitling and Zenith do it. I am sure others as well. You could control the amount one buys per item with some sort of address, id registration etc etc. Sure the crooks would find a way around it and get more but it may even itself out. Not sure what makes it "out of this world" as folks think it is crazy. Plenty of luxury brands you can buy direct online.

I could see them doing a version of this at some point. Plenty of luxury brands sell online and just don't include the entire lineup. So you might be able to get your less popular configurations of OP or Datejust but the "Hot" models would still be AD only.

While right now anything with the Rolex name on it is hot, that wont last forever.

100s of 1000s of people struggle to get their hands on the 800,000 or so watches Rolex produce each year and that’s by people wrangling with ADs. So how the hell would Rolex do it if these same people were to go online and click ‘buy’? How would that work? It wouldn’t.
