Why did they discontinue 116710LN?

I’m curious? Is it because it looked to familiar with the a Submariner but it’s a GMT

I wouldn't have thought so.

If I was to guess, it would be that Rolex wants their GMT watches equipped with a two colour bezel.

In part I think you are right, can easily be confused with the black sub .. it’s half a green bezel and a left hand switcherooo away from the VTNR ( Sprite/Destro/Riddler )

There is maybe more to this than you appreciate.
I'd bet when the new redesigned GMT comes along (which may be next year), it will release with an LN - this was the case in 2007, the first new SS GMT was LN.

Maybe it returns with a red GMT hand. I would love one on a Jubilee.

The current SS GMT line is two color bezel. The LN was the exception, and I think that’s why it was discontinued!
To me, it’s the same reason that makes it very special to me!!

I think the modern ceramic LN was a bridge to getting the bicolor ceramic bezel technology perfected. I have read that going forward (and it was recently implied in their marketing materials), Rolex wants the two colors on the bezel to be the exclusive look of the GMT.

That said, as with anything with Rolex, that could be misinterpreted or could be subject to change.

As a submariner fan, I like the distinction.

I doubt it. Black bezel GMT-Masters were available consistently from the early 1970s (1675) till the end of the 116710LN in 2018.

I wouldn't be surprised if they bring it back with the black and grey bezel released this year on the GRNR.

It was getting less popular than the the two-tone bezel models. This meant it was in danger of being a stainless steel that is actually available to people, and they cannot allow that...

Still enjoying mine, but a lot less since I have gone off the brand because of the silly hype.

Rolex made the all black ceramic GMT bezel starting in 2007 because they could not make it in color at the time. It was not until 2013 that Rolex figured out how to make them in colors.

“…the stainless steel ref. GMT-Master II ref. 116710 in 2007. At first, Rolex only offered the Cerachrom bezels across all three metal cases in monochromatic black, claiming that it would be impossible to produce a two-tone one in ceramic. However in 2013, Rolex seemingly made the impossible possible by introducing the stainless steel GMT-Master II ref. 116710BLNR with a bi0-color, black and blue Cerachrom ceramic bezel. Like all two-tone GMT-Master bezels before it, this one quickly picked up a nickname and it’s now known as the Rolex “Batman” among collectors and enthusiasts.”

I don't know Rolex's rationale, but I can say from personal experience that I owned the LN on two separate occasions and it never stayed in the collection very long because it was just too similar to my black Submariner.

I currently own the BLNR and I think with the two-tone bezel, and especially with the Jubilee bracelet Rolex has given the modern ceramic GMT a clearly distinct identity and that makes it far more interesting IMO!

I absolutely love my LN.

The little subtle pop of green, the clean aesthetics of it all just work for me.

My thought is Rolex will stick to two-color bezels for all GMTs moving forward.

I have a feeling the redesigned GMT will launch with the black and red bezel, aka Coke.

But who the heck knows… it’s Rolex! Maybe they do launch with an LN and following year announce new color ways.

All I know is that flipping my 116710LN a few years back was one of the dumbest things I've done.

it makes more sense for the GMTII to have a bi-color bezel.

Well the LN was just the first ceramic due to Rolex needing more time to perfect the bi-color bezels, but at the same time that doesn't mean Rolex is against uni-color GMT bezels considering there was an LN for the aluminum bezel GMTs as well.

My guess is they simply wanted to dedicate the limited materials/manufacturing resources to the more popular bi-color bezels.

The black LN aluminum bezel GMT was produced because a lot of buyers didn't like the Pepsi red and blue. Times and taste have changed and the GMT will only come in two colors.

I've been thinking about selling my 2019 LN but there's something about it that's hard for me to part with. It's still in like new condition as it's been a safe queen while I was deciding if I'll sell it or trade it (plus cash) for a black 116520. I agree that it's a special watch and I think I should just keep it. Even if it gets reintroduced someday, maybe it'll be 41 mm?
