Dropped my Speedmaster!!

Unfortunately, I dropped my Speedmaster this morning on the bathroom tiled floor. I was taking off my watch to dry my hands but as I was taking it off from the tang buckle, my watch slipped.

I have a dent right on the bottom of the case. I don’t believe there is damage to the movement as it still runs perfectly. Luckily, I don’t see the damage when I wear it.

Is this repairable? how much do you think it will cost? Thank in advance.

Everything is repairable nowadays, if you throw enough money at it.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe can consider laser welding?

That’s the reason why I always take out my watch before entering the bathroom.

The power of Steel! If that piece was ceramic it would have been split into two…that being said, short of replacing the entire case, I’m not sure if this is “repairable”.

Laser surfacing with a good specialist will do the trick. This is the wizard Damian from Poland and his website. https://www.facebook.com/WatchesSPA/

That’s a real bummer. That kind of ding would bother me. I’d start with your AD and get their assessment.

It’s repairable but what’s the point if that lousy bathroom doesn’t get a beating for this attack on your watch! Justice before rehab!

Guess laser welding is the way to go. You obviously cant polish it and the alternative is a new case.

The question then becomes, does it bother you and do you really care?

Wow, from that dent it looks like it was drop from the Empire state building. Sorry to see that happen. If you decide to get it fixed please upload some pics.

Oh man, very sorry to see this. I guess it could've been even worse, but it's repairable.

You'll have to find a watchmaker that does laser welding case repair. Once you've done that you can properly weight the options to see if you think it's worth doing or living with to add character.

The safest place for your watch is typically on the wrist. I'm hoping you're able to get this sorted out to your satisfaction at some point.

I would check into the cost of replacing that part of the case. If doing this, it would be least expensive to find an independent watchmaker with an Omega parts account because an Omega Service Center will require a Complete Maintenance Service in order to do this, and that's $750 for a Speedmaster Pro (excluding the cost of the new case).

Jack at International Watch Works might have an Omega parts account and could do this. I know Nesbit's does, and they might agree to do the swap without charging you for a Complete Maintenance Service. Archer Watches would probably do it, but he's in Canada (customs could be a complication, but I'm not sure).

Wow! Did you drop it out of a Cessna? Good news is I think that's a pretty easy fix for an experienced laser welder, and even if you wanted a new case I believe Omega is actually pretty reasonable. If you're not particularly attached to the watch you could sell it as-is and use this as a opportunity to buy a 3861.

Sorry this happened. I would either repair it, replace the case if economical or sell it as is and get another. I am not much of one to not have my things right. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Omega will copy the serial number or a service case? No idea how they work.

That is a really nasty hit. Sorry. I think laser welding is the answer. Your AD should be able to put you in the right direction.

I couldn't live with that.

Sell it and purchase a new replacement.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I can actually live with it as it doesn’t really bother me when I have my watch on since I cannot see the dent. It’s actually not as bad in person. I think the close-up photos accentuate the damage. This is my daily piece so I guess it was bound to happen even though I’m extremely careful with all my watches. I blame the tang buckle! Maybe I will fix it down the road, but for now I’m good.

It would depend upon the value of the watch or if it has irreplaceable sentimental value. Laser welding would be the way to go, but it isn’t cheap, hence my first comment.

It’s the fear of this happening that keeps me from ever taking my watches off in the bathroom over the tile floor. At least you have a Speedmaster, they’ve proven their toughness at NASA and now again in your bathroom.

Leave it as is. It is now personalized.
Only take off and put on watches to sleep and wake. (Others sleep with them on)

My only watch not on deployant is my newest smp300 on rubber with tang buckle and ive almost dropped a few times and my girlfriend did drop the first time i showed it to her with magically no traces left. All that to say after reading this think ill try and source a deployant for it now!

I’ve heard of Rolliworks. Any other ones you can recommend?
