I'm in!

The new 18K Deepsea is glorious, and totally unexpected. As the extremely happy owner of a TT Sea Dweller, this is the logical next step, right?

Have been contemplating one final watch to cap off my collection for my 50th birthday, and this baby is IT!

Do it! — If it’s your thing, and it speaks to you, treat yourself!

Out of curiosity, what else is in your collection that makes this the piéce de resistance?

So large.

Makes me laugh when people say it will fit taller/larger folks.

Barry White wore a 36MM gold day-date. If it fits him...

Looking forward to see the pics of you wearing it over your diver suit.

The only way I’d spend $50,000+ on this is if they changed the dial to the sunburst a la YG Submariner Bluesy

it will weigh 11 ounces or so. not sure why you would spend 20k more than for a gold sub.

Is the caseback made of something other than 18k gold? Seems strange.

I'd be in too, if I could afford it. I own the current black dial Deepsea, might be favorite watch. I'd rock this gold one all day!

It’s made of titanium. It’s not strange, its functional. The Deepseas use the titanium as an essential part of the waterproof engineering. For Rolex’s patent on the Deepsea construction, titanium flexes at profound depths causing the ringlock system to compress which is how Rolex achieves it depth rating. The flexing of titanium also prevents it from outright breaking or shearing in half from the extreme pressures. Technically speaking, the Deepsea’s technology and the waterproof test machine they designed are it’s most high tech and complicated creation to date more so than any movement even.

Other metals can be used but for the engineering behind this technology, it needs to be in titanium.

I don’t think there will be much of a queue for it - size, weight, cost, brashness, etc - so if you like it, go for it! You will probably have a good chance of getting one this year (unless they only make about 10 of them!), so it’ll certainly be one hell of a 50th birthday present!

I would honestly consider buying this watch, but this will be one that the aftermarket will price more accordingly, just like it did with the all gold Yachtmaster IIs. The YMIIs were never hot sellers and they are available in the forums for sale at a fraction of their retail prices. I expect the same for the new Rolex "gold brick" and I'll be there to pick one up.

Interesting! Never knew that.

However, I think the majority of potential buyers are going to fall in the ignorant camp (like me) and find that it smacks of cost-savings. There's a similar sentiment with the 126506's use of a sapphire caseback in lieu of 950 platinum.

That could be, but at this price point I’d hope that potential buyers would brush up on the specs before jumping to any conclusions

With the large case/bracelet and 18k, that might be a bit heavy for some perhaps (pendulum arm)? All the same, glad you like it and a potential future aquisition for you. Cheers!

Wish they would have brought back the 40mm Sea Dweller in this configuration. I would have sold my entire collection for it.

That is exactly what this should have been….Rolex could have returned the SD4K 40mm in rose gold, and a SD4K 40mm no date version in stainless steel. I would have bought both.

I think it replaced the YM2?

Rolex needed to keep an enormous gold piece in the offerings

I had a DSSD when they first came out.
It's an awesome watch but just big on my wrists but if I did have bigger wrists I would be in line for one for sure!

Looks Great! I wish I could pull off that big monster. Unless you are a big time heavy hitter you might have to wait till your 51st or 52nd Birthday.

Hope you get it
