Regrets trading my first Rolex

My first Rolex was a Z serial sub pre-ceramic, purchased back in 2007 for around $3600 bucks. I still remember how amazing it felt owning my very first Rolex. And a timeless Sub of all models.

Back then I didn’t have the income I have today so I needed to trade out of it to upgrade to the newly released deep sea at the time.

God what I would do for that watch again. Can anyone relate?

I traded my first rolex for it's newer version, (16613 with 126613) but got it back after a month. Glad it wasn't sold to anyone. So i still have it now.

Yea I can relate but it goes back to when I was in the Omega world. I had a first generation planet ocean 42mm, full set, unpolished and with the coveted 2500D movement which was rare. It’s really a unicorn if you’re looking to buy one now and I let it go a few years ago. I’ve tried to correct my wrong by randomly looking here and here but they’re just not for sale. Huge seller’s remorse with that one….

Yup. Mine was a Submariner 14060. But no sense crying over spilled milk as they say. It’s all part of our hobby.

That’s crazy, I bought my 16610LV in 2007 and I considered trading it for a deep sea when they first came out. In my case, I did not go through with the trade.

I bought my first (16600) in 2008. The bad news: I don't have it today. The good news: I gave it to my daughter, and she loves it!

I'm wearing my 14060M two-line that my wife purchased at the Waikiki AD new in 2005 for about $3600 on the occasion of our 25th anniversary. I'll never ever get rid of it. It will be 18 years on my wrist in about 10 days on our 43rd anniversary.

I've been in the watch market for a while now and that's a common beginner mistake, I see happen all the time. Always research the watch prices

Yes I sold a 14060M and a DJ36 a few years ago when I got bored with the hobby, and spent a lot more to get a 114060 and DJ41 now.

I can. It was a SS submariner D series I think.

But did you prefer the DJ36 over the 41? Or you mean you’d prefer to have both?
The 14060M I can relate to, as I had gotten the 124060 and couldn’t justify having both. In reality, however, they are quite different. C’est la vie.

I can never go back. Most times when I sell/trade a watch it was for very good reasons. I have missed watches that I have moved on but as I put them back into the collection it is very seldom the same. Much of my collecting has to do with were I am in life and how much experience I have or had at the time. Nostalgia for the past is strong but once I take the varnish away it typically is more about me as opposed to the watch.

I had a Submariner 16610LN that was given to me in 2003 for graduation and which I then exchanged for a 116610LN and then for a 126610LN.
Now I'm trying to get hold of a 16610LN again because I regret leaving it.

I sold my first 2 and then a gap of about 4 years before getting the current 2. I would have saved a lot of money if I’d just stayed with my first 2. To answer the 36/41 question, I was happy at the time with my 36 but much prefer the 41 size now, and my wrist is average 7”.

I’ve made a few boo boo’s along the way.

Some I’ve regretted selling, some I’ve not. All part of the journey

I sold my first Rolex, only to buy it back 10 days later from the dealer. Hurt too much.

So far I have been lucky, I haven't missed any of the 3 watches I have sold, but my decision system seems pretty solid. If it sits in the safe for a few months and I don't reach for it anymore, it's gone. I also sold my Submariner for a Deep Sea.

Cars though, wish I could have kept them all in a warehouse. The value of them would have out preformed any other investment

Yes i can relate. I traded my first Rolex, a 114060 towards another one. I don’t even remember which one anymore. I sometimes think about that one. But regret is a big word.
