New SS Daytonas are in the mid $30k??? Insane!

Ever since I got my white face ceramic, I stopped looking at the market.

Just happened to see a private seller ask $32k for a black face the other day, and I thought he was nuts. Then I checked David SW and saw a white face for $33.5k.

It's funny, this makes me want to hold mine even tighter...let's hope they keep going up, and my kids can reap the benefits once I'm gone.

I never understood the hysteria. The Daytona is in the bottom half of Rolex models I would like to own. Obviously, I’m in the minority, though, based on the second hand prices you see.

Glad you’re enjoying yours!

Just as there are some who don’t get the BLRO hype. Unfortunately, I love both.

That’s a difficult two to love in the current climate unless you’re fortunate in more ways than one in being able to acquire both.

Those top tier prices are for BNIB, unworn, with brand new warranty cards.

Knock off 10-15% for several years old... and another 10% for trade in value.

I would think that the prices will come down after covid is over and production gets back to normal. Or rather more normal.

I also wonder if since people are not traveling or going out to eat, they are shifting their money over towards things like watches and are willing to pay a higher price because they have more in savings.

Or perhaps, the Daytona will be selling at 80k in the next three years. Who knows?

Maybe we should think Rolex prices are still great deals (@ insane prices) when compared with Richard Mille. RM are technically cool but pretty ugly.

They can ask what they want, these watches are definitely not moving at above 30k nor are they worth it.

Lets be real. Current Daytonas aren’t gonna be worth 30k + years from now. Wishful thinking. And its not like owners are going to start off loading them anyway. If anything thing, they’re gonna hold to them tighter so they can lowkey throw it in the faces of the Daytonaless

If the watch was actually moving at that price, it wouldn’t still be listed for sale.
That said, inflationary pressure is real across-the-board.
Just look at bitcoin! People are afraid to hold dollars right now, they would rather have assets and probably rightfully so.
The new normal is not going anywhere, anytime soon because the value of the dollar will almost certainly continue to decline.
Will a Daytona sell at 2-3x retail 5 years from now? Probably not. But the retail cost is going to go up and while the gap may close, we are looking at 25K plus Daytona‘s for a long time.

If you get a chance take a look at David SW website. He gets Daytona’s and they move very quickly. I’ve been looking daily for the past week and Daytona’s are gone, new ones show up and within days those are gone too.

Everything is going up not just watches.

Real Estate is going bonkers. I went to auction on the weekend in Sydney and that house sold for $500k ABOVE reserve. WTF that is INSANE.

Dont worry about a $5k-$10k increase in watches. I'm thinking about dumping ALL of my watches and buying another 3-4 houses. Banks predicting 10-15% increases in 2021 and 2022 with a more subdued 7-8% in 2023. Imagine that compounded each year. THAT could be a life changing amount of money. You can buy as many and whatever Rolex you want.

Dont worry about a Rolex watch price increases. No matter how much they increase even if its $60k is not enough to change anyone's life. LOL

Oh yes they’re definitely moving. Not a single Daytona/BLRO I’ve been ‘watching’ on a site I use, has stayed available for more than 3-4 weeks.

Same here. 116500WD and 126710BLRO are most iconic in their category. But wouldn't pay double or triple despite the itch and just wait for my AD (maybe forever, but don't think so). It's all very well to say that, having a beautiful 16710 and a 116505 which is my Daytona grail. But I think the hype isn't driven by WIS but the actual glut of money...

Yes it has a great movement but must be the biggest hyped Rolex watch of all time. And today many buy the hype to wear the hype, and while the hype continues there will be those willing to pay crazy prices for them.

The worst part of all this craziness is what it's done to the Classic line now. The Daytonas and BLROs can triple in price, for all I care. But stop messing with the DDs!
