Speedmaster Pro Wrist Shots

I wear a 1986 Rolex GMT Master II, and I like it very much.

However, the more I see of the NASA Speedmaster Pro, and the more I consider all of its aspects and qualities (price not the least), the more it seems the "perfect watch."

While visiting this subforum over the past months, I have noted that the Speedmaster Pro looks much better on wrists than it does in advertising photos.

Interestingly, the Speedmaster Pro looks a little different, and takes on a slightly different character on each and every wrist upon which I have seen it.

I would like to see more wrist shots of the Speemaster on this forum, and even some links to more wrist shots.

I could never give up my GMT Master II; however, I could see myself saving up my money and acquiring a Speedmaster Pro sometime in the next few years.

A few wrist shots of the Speedmaster could push me over the edge.

Thanks to all for a great forum.

Hi, Ken. Here's a wrist shot of a beautiful watch that has gotten away. Not an excellent photo though, since the Speedmaster is basically a camera-shy watch.

Cheers.

Please don't apologize for the photo.

It looks beautiful to me, and so does the watch.

Thanks.

The Speedmaster is a great watch with a reliable hand-wound lemania movement. Thanks for the photos.

No wrist shots of the speedy unfortunately but I thought you'd appreciate this one.

Don't think about getting a speedy pro dude....go and get one. I've had mine for 11 years now and wouldn't even have considered another until th eRolex bug bit.

Timetravel125's photo really demonstrates the "presence" of the Speedy.

=====

Jmsrolls' photo shows the two (IMHO) all-time classics of wrist watches.

When I got my GMT Master II, I did not know the Explorer II even existed.

If I had it to do over, and had the available money, I would go with the Speedy first, the Explorer II second, and the GMT Master II third.

I note the metal band on jmsrolls' Speedy and his description of this watch as 40 years old.
That would make this watch a pre-moon watch, and, in my mind, the REAL THING, and most representative of the watch that actually visited the moon (mind-boggling).
How cool can it get?
It makes me feel good to think of jmsrolls wearing this watch.

Regarding the band, I think I have heard this band described as a "hair-puller."
In the early 1970's, I had a Seiko with a similar band that in fact pulled hair.
What experience has jmsrolls had with this band, and, in what year did Omega change the design of the band?

=====

Because of SLRdude's gorgeous photos, I finally have a sense of the physical reality of this watch.
Mechanical Magnificence.

=====

Welshwatchman shows the Speedy with a brown leather band.
How rich.
I wouldn't have thought it.
Nice.

=====

A brochure-quality photo from Tools, and very "real."

Thanks.

=====

Jasper shows the GMT Master II and the Speedy next to each other, and the GMT Master II has a black bezel.

I recently had my 22 year-old GMT Master II restored to original condition, and now, after seeing jasper's photo, I wish I had specified a black bezel.

Oh well, I can live with it.

Jasper shows nice bands on both watches.

=====

Does anyone have a wrist shot of a Speedy with the rounded leather band that comforms to the shape of the case?

Also, I have seen a leather band on a Speedy that has two raised channels on it, as if for internal reinforcement.
I'd like to know more about this band.

=====

Thanks to everyone for the photos.
I have copied them to my hard drive.

I hope this thread keeps going with more photos.

Here are a few more for you.

This one is from the late 70's.

Unfortunately the tritium hands were replaced with luminova during service.

That my friend is a 16750 GMT Master with an acrylic crystal. The GMT Master II came later. My GMT is in for service at the moment so I'm wearing my Speedy full time. I love the speedy...but I won't lie to you I miss my GMT.

I've installed a pepsi bezel insert since then, but I still have the black one and will swap it back at some point.

Here's a shot of the GMT with the Pepsi installed, and two of the Speedy from this evening on a Bond NATO which I *just* received in the mail today.

Speedmaster succeded where the Daytona failed. No clue why folks are so infatuated by the Daytona. Speedy is a superior machine.

Ken,

Mine is the 105.012 as worn by Armstrong and other moon walkers:

Early on, I owned a couple of dozen Speedy Pros but was never satisfied until I owned a true moon watch.

As for the bracelet in the wristshot with the EXPII, it is the rarest and most sought-after ref. 1450 that briefly appeared on the Speedies of the late 1980s. It is very comfortable and most definitely not a hair-puller. (It was the ref. 1479 bracelet that succeeded the 1450 that was infamous for pulling hair.)

My Speedy is worn in regular rotation and I hope that someday one of my grandsons or great-grandsons will wear it on the moon or even on Mars.

Thanks to jmsrolls for identifying the "hair-puller."

If anyone would like to see three Speedmaster bracelets (on watches and wrists) from different eras together in one photo (1450, 1479, 1498) they can follow this link:
