Awsome. I did a free fall course years ago. The peace and sense of tranquillity when under the canopy is indescribable (after all the adrenalin from the free fall)

Awesome! Hope you had a blast!

And to answer the question, yes it is! I hope your landing wasn't as wonky as mine

Thanks, Bas. Yes, I did. Honestly, it was the best experience of my life.

My landing was really smooth, but that's because the instructor knew what he was doing. How many times have you jumped!?

So glad to hear you enjoyed it!!

I did the first jump of AFF course back in June, one jump with two instructors and after pulling you steer and land yourself. I loved it!

But when dad got ill I didn't complete the course and now the Dutch weather won't allow me to. I'll be doing the full course (7 jumps) in the spring and have a set goal of 50 jumps for 2019.

I had to jump once in the military, from 9,000 feet. I wasn’t scared until the door opened, I thought: “I’m a PILOT, and here I am VOLUNTARILY jumping out of a perfectly good airplane!?”

Is it safe...

Springbar failure at that altitude would create quite a scavenger hunt in the LZ.

This is why they created NATO & Zulu straps.

It was an amazing experience, guys! Life changing! I highly recommend that you all give it a shot at least once.

I am already planning to jump again.

Sounds like you found a new addiction.

Let me know if you decide to sell either of the cars for funds!

So jealous! Sounds like a blast.

Looks like a great day Wes.

FWIW, it is not safe. I lost a 5513 on an airborne operation when I was in the Army. I had been having trouble with a loosening screw and the watch blew right off my wrist while I was standing in the door of a C-130.

If anybody lives outside of Ft. Stewart Ga, the watch is in the woods about two miles out from the main DZ.

Thanks, all! Yea, it was a total blast! Seriously, if you have even remotely given skydiving a thought, JUST DO IT!

My thread title was mostly a joke, partly because so many people ask "is it safe" and also I feel so comfortable with my Explorer that I do just about anything and everything with it, but you actually make a good point. In retrospect, I should have put on a nato/zulu strap just in case. Next time. :)

The NATO won't really help you in this application. Once you lose a spring bar the watch will twist violently in the 120 mph air stream and pop the other bar or tear loose from the strap.

Try putting an elastic band over the top of your watch when you jump to protect it from the wind. When you graduate from tandem jumps you'll have other things to do than look after your watch.
