AP Diver Needs new seals and gaskets

Hi Guys, been lurking in the background for a while now and made my first AP purchase through a trusted seller.I bought an Unworn AP Diver which is a great watch but with it being a number of years old and unworn the seals and gaskets are not as stong as they should be and need replacing...Can anyone advise me of a reputable specialist in the UK who can help?

i could be wrong but i believe it has to be sent in to AP as they dont sell parts to independent watchmakers

Also, with watches like AP, even if they supplied parts, I wouldn't 'trust' 3rd party service providers. If I were you, I'd just send it off to APSC in London

how old is it? Maybe you should just get it checked for water resistance first and then advise, except if your intentions are to use it when deep diving, I know that in the worst case mine would be 3-4 meters under water not more, anyways always better safe than sorry so if you're more comfortable doing it then do it...

What is the exact age of the watch?

I'm not an AP owner so can't comment on service/seal change intervals but now do you know it needs the seals/gaskets changed?

It's like, if you took your vehicle to a dealership for service and they tell you that your engine head gaskets need replacement...without conducting a compression test.

I would have a water resistance test done first by AP, and go from there.

But, curious -- even if it's a Gen 1 diver -- I wouldn't think seals would be bad --- especially if unworn. If it spent a lot of time in the ocean, maybe would have checked out.

Yes, have a test done by AP first. And then have AP do the work, they are a pleasure do deal with, esp Alistair.

Hi Guys..

It is a 2010 model which i bought from a trusted seller along with a Pam171, Gil provided an excellent service in October and have only worn the watch on special occasions.I noticed a few weeks ago after a hot shower and then getting ready in an air conditioned room that the face of my AP was steamed up, dropped a email along with pictures to Gil who advised me it was the gasket expanding with the change of climate and to get it checked out.Took it to my local AP dealer who advised a gasket and seal replacement which would have to include a service at a cost of £650, as it is covered by a 12 month warranty through Gil i was trying to save him a bit of money and just get the seals and gasket replaced in the UK...Does everyone think AP should be my only option

Yup its 6 years old i would advise you send it to an AP service centre, happened to my sub once stopped wearing watches in the shower

Wow, if it really steams up in the shower, then there's something seriously wrong with the seals, not just the fact that it is 5-6 years old.
I'm betting it has been like this since new - Wouldn't be the first faulty new AP...
Definitely needs a movement check (if it has corrosion due to moisture inside), and new seals. And definitely get AP to do it for you.

Something doesn't add up...you said it's an unworn AP Diver (so brand new) from 2010 and somehow the seals are failing. First of all, how would there be a new Diver sitting around for 6 years? Not exactly a collectable someone just throws in a safe.

I would have whoever sells you the watch to either pay for the service or split it with you. I didn't even think of the fact that there could be more damage internally like others have suggested, which if so, I'd probably return the watch.

I would not want someone other than AP tinkering with the watch if you choose to go the repair route.
