Icon10 Rolex GTG in Carmel, California August 7th

Each year I help promote a watch Get Together in San Francisco. This year the event will be held in Carmel California.

When: August 7th, 5:00PM
Where: Carmel, California

All are welcomed to a great time to discuss watches, as well as see some rarely seen Rolex watches. There is always great discussion and commentary as well as a great dinner. This event is limited to 40 people included spouses. Plenty of information to share. PM me at sheldonsmith for details and reg info... (My wife thinks I am planning my own little watch Rave...well maybe... )

Icon4 Update! Rolex GTG in Carmel

Where: Carmel, California

This is truly going to be a historic event as there will be rarely seen in public Rolex watches such as the original 1960 Deep Sea Special. Unlike the watch shown above in Hannes' photo (used with permission), the actual watch that was strapped to the Trieste Bathyscaphe that descended into the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean to a record depth of 35,810, known as the deepest point on Earth will be shown at this event. This GTG will also have four of the most coveted Rolex dive watches in history, including Jacques Verpeaux’s JANUS IV COMEX SEA-DWELLER as well as Single Red Sea Dweller and a Patent Pending 1665 Double Red.

All are welcomed to a great time to discuss watches, as well as see some rarely seen Rolex watches. There is always great discussion and commentary as well as a great dinner. This event is limited to 40 people included spouses. Plenty of information to share. PM me at sheldonsmith for details and reg info... Yes, we kicked the GTG idea around for this year, but we did not have, or access to, a grail piece that would have been the centerpiece of the event.

Last year's event was successful, in part, because we were able to profile very rare Rolex pieces with which people traveled from all over the globe to see. We did not want to have another event unless we were able to have similar grail pieces to show and be able to promote the event at the same level.

It has not been for the lack of trying though... When we have access to another grail piece(s), TRF will be one of the first places we will promote the event. Fortunately, TRF does not get hung up on promoting GTG's and partnerships with AD's like the other boards do (Thanks Steve!).

Just followed this from another thread, never seen that 1960 Deep Sea Special before, I wonder if anybody has actually worn it for a day. Anybody know how much it weighs.

We are looking to obtain another grail watch to have an event that was on par with the Deep Sea event. Most likely not this summer, but I am always on the hunt for another grail watch to profile at another Carmel GTG.

If we have another event, I will be sure to post it here.

Next year (2012) we should plan a GTG with McQueens 5512 or 5513 as the center piece.

Great idea... I'll pass it by Josh the next time I am there. Come to think of it, this would be a good excuse to go to Fourtane and chat this idea up...
