I have all this great info here but dont know where to start.

Here are some things I will be putting in there.

GMT and GMT2 how to
Serial number/letter years of intro

I can help with one. The cost of servicing is around the £200 mark plus any parts required. It's also about the same in Saudi.

What about the all important question: Should I remove the hologram?

I had a modest FAQ posted on that other, other forum, but it fell victim to that strategic 'stryke' from the trolls.

I'll be damned if I can find it on my disks now.

I can feed these to you as I thnk of 'em; Most of 'em are questions that I've responed to over the years, some of which I've saved so that I simply had to 'cut-and-paste' rather than re-type time-after-time.

"Sometimes, after winding my watch manually, it won't start ticking until I give it a shake...is there something wrong with my watch?"

No. It's likely a matter of how the teeth of the escape wheel were engaged with the pallet stones when the watch stopped. It's not all that unusual to have to give the watch a bit of a nudge to get the pallet stones locking and unlocking properly after it's been stopped because of low mainspring torque.

Another (less likely) thing it could be, if you have an older watch that hasn't been serviced in many, many years, is an issue of dry pallet stones in need of lubrication (the pallet stones rely on sliding friction to work properly, hence, the need for lubrication).

"What is a Breguet balance (hair) spring?"

A Breguet balance spring refers to a balance spring that has its terminal (final) curve bent up-and over the main coil before it's fitted to the spring stud.

The theoretical advantage to this terminal curve is better concentricity of the balance spring - it breathes more concentrically than a flat balance spring - theoretically affording better, more consistent performance in the vertical positions.

The overcoil termination used to be a difficult exercise to perform - it took a very skilled technician to get it 'just right' - but it's reported that even this function has been relegated to highly automated precision machines today.
