movement 1520 or 1530?
Long time lurking, first time posting.
Hope experienced members here can help. I noticed 2 Air-King 5500 3-6-9 dial watches for sale on Chrono 24 both described housing a 1530 movement, though the dial was printed Precision. Also another watch 5504 circa 1958 recently sold on eBay showed a 1520 movement inside the watch. I was interested in the watches, but very hesitant due to concerns of uncertainty. My questions: 1. Does a 1520 movement (or vice versa 1530 movement) in a watch with Superprecision (or vice versa Precision) put the authenticity of the watch in question? 2. Most online info reported that 1520 movement was started in production in 1965, although some dated as early as in 1959. Does a 1520 movement obviously put the authenticity of a watch dated earlier than 1959 in question? Thank you so much for your help. |

No, it doesn't. The plates are interchangeable and often used without regard.
Also, I believe you are questioning originality, not authenticity. There is a huge difference between the two.

Thank you for the comment.
Also thanks for the correction. I should say originality rather than authenticity. How about the year of production? Can we see an original 5504 from 1958 housed a 1520 movement? Thanks again. |
