you can't get a VTNR but you're being offered rainbow daytonas?

I would be very surprised if this watch is offered to a casual customer. So I can only assume OP is a legit VVVIP of that particular AD.

OP couldn’t get a skydweller but is offered a rainbow that sells for double MSRP? Sounds like a troll post

My understanding is "off catalog" pieces are only offered to VIPs.

That's a 150-200+k msrp piece that gets 2-3x msrp in the open mkt. Why not pick up, hold for a year, and then trade for all the hard to get pieces (panda, Pepsi, sprite, ...)?

Per my AD if you hold for a year it's not "flipping."

Troubling questions.

Maybe it's my misunderstanding. My AD explained to me why a friend couldn't get a Rainbow. He is a high net worth individual - the watch can't be offered, but an offer to order one can be extended by an AD.

Maybe that's what the OP meant.

Or, maybe that was a preowned model that his AD had.

I call bs. That’s an instant buy for double the money. But no one gets offered a rainbow Daytona. Pretty sure Rolex HQ has to approve it.

Some answers

Wow interesting set of replies....lol

Where to begin....if you look at my previous posts you will see that I have relationships with multiple ADs over 3 countries....let say in one of these countries where Business practices can be questionable at times (which is in fact my country of origin,) the AD gets these one off pieces on very very rare occasions and will 'set his price' and offer it a number of his VIP clients....I would say my personal relationship with the AD whom i am very close with is more of a reason I am added in such a client offering list more than my spend....truth is this is well above my budget for a watch as the price I was quoted was more of a house range as far as I'm concerned...also I am not a flipper so I wouldn't buy it to simply make a profit as I wear my watches....

As for not obtaining a Sprite or celebration from this dealer and hopefully soon a blue or green steel Skydweller....thats just a matter of patience which sadly at times I'm lacking, he does not get the kind of voluminous stock other countries may get...and at the end of the day I'm not his only close/VIP client but to be fair in '24 he has already blessed me with a Pepsi, Batgirl, Batman (Dad) and a mk2 LV so can't really complain....

And to set the record straight I was offered a VTNR but on oyster not jubilee

Never said it was offered at Retail...just interested in others experiences and offerings....edit: price I was offered was well under (6 figures) chrono 24 prices but does this mean it was at retail...don't know and as my original post below indicates don't really care lol

To be honest not sure what I was offered was 'market' price...have no interest in the piece (even if I had the funds would not purchase as this is so far off my taste range) and as such quickly declined and thanked for being offered...I have learned that asking any type of sensitive questions on such pieces (is this retail/are you charging a premium/who else is interested etc) just ends up souring a relationship better to say Thank you but no thanks and move swiftly on.....

Well I was offered a red text 1680 this week. The edges on the case were too far gone so I passed.

Actually enjoying the banter, and can roll with the punches and come out smiling as that's my nature to usually do so...

Look, I understand that many people on this forum are constrained logistically/geographically to the mercy of a few ADs in their area so trying to understand how someone can be offered a Rainbow Daytona (perhaps retail perhaps not) before a Sprite or Celebration can be hard to fathom...I get it...

Truth is I can get on a plane, fly 2 and half hours and visit 3 ADs in different countries where I speak the local languages and thus have access to their specific markets....each country has its own unique selling practices and while many are similar there are of course differences to the point where one off pieces like this are made available to semi regular folks like myself before even a Blue skydweller or celebration thats just the nature of their specific market....bottom line is even with all these perceived advantages I still need to go gray from time to time....so good luck to all of us

Our AD lets us use the facilities. It has a toilet seat (attached and correctly aligned) so it must be the VIP bathroom.

Good for you. I would find that very hard to turn down at least just to experience ownership :)

In June 2020 had these offered to me a few months apart. I was waiting for a BLRO. I was not in the market to drop this much coin on a DD. Not sure I could get these types of pieces offered to me again, I did eventually get my BLRO without buying a PM piece.
