If you want to buy something because the price is going up...; I suggest buy a piece of real estate with spectacular sea view in major cities. Can be New York, Shang Hai, Hong Kong or London. Time pieces is to be loved, and adored. The price may go up.... which is a bonus or may not go up... but you like it, wear it often and help you solve your problems then you made the right decision. Like wearing obnoxious gold Rolex shows that you are willing to pay extra if you can give me your best shot; it save me a lot of time to get things done right, than say wearing a Calatrava or Aquanaut.

Would definitely be interested in a London property with sea views...

They seem to be holding quite well. However a very ii-liquid market. 5970J/G/R around $130 to $140 and the Ps around $180 pre-owned of course.

You'll need the cash to build a flat on top of the Shard.

They are holding their own. Going up not really. The best of the bunch is the P.
They are also very illiquid if you want to come out especially if you purchased through a dealer (who bought the watch far lower than he is selling it to you).

These are watches you buy for the long-term, which you will wear carefully and enjoy. 10 or more years from now if they have appreciated so much the better. If not so what.

Feels to me like the market for anything fancy (watches or cars) is very soft at the moment.

These are very expensive watches. Personally, i would wait a 6 months to a year.

They aren’t but among non WIS there’s this perception of “asshole with a gold Rolex” in some circles.

I am guilty of this. I was at a nearby restaurant a few months back and I saw a middle age Asian guy wearing a Yellow Gold Black Sub with t-shirt and shorts. For a small wrist it was a big watch...pretty obnoxious looking in full yellow gold. I don't want to be that guy or perceived to be that guy. I guess I am 6 foot 1 and a decent build so it wouldn't look so glaringly big...either way its pretty in your face.

In HongKong and Asia, the 36mm yellow gold day date is pretty symbolic of the Asian businessman with some level of success. There is a perception of these men as pretty aggressive, outspoken and generally obnoxious too. Last week, I tried out a new Chinese hotpot place in LA and the owner was wearing a 36mm yellow day date yelling on the phone in a foreign language. I don't want to be that guy.

Gold watches with gold bracelet are more noticeable than gold watches with a leather strap. Except for a few RG Nautilus and a few WT, AC, PCC, Patek does not have a lot of gold bracelet watches. Of course most Rolex gold watches have those shiny bracelets.

Get the point but its $140-$180k for a 5970 and around $20k to $40k for an aquanaut. Real estate with spectacular sea view in major cities are at least $1.5M-$2M for a tiny tiny spot. I don't think they are comparable.

If you're saying whether you should go "Conkers" with 5970s and bespoke APs then yeah perhaps the comparison may be justifiable.

‘Going the full Conkers’ will thus now refer to when one obtains each metal of a rare complicated reference.

Great watches - if you are going to wear it and enjoy it for many years then a few thousand either way shouldn’t matter and you should find the best one unpolished and full set you can find.
